ASA FREE PICK TOTAL: OVER 9 NY Yankees @ Baltimore Orioles, 1:35 PM ET - The first game of this series saw 13 runs scored followed up by 9 runs yesterday. Yesterday’s game should have been much higher scoring as the two teams pounded out 21-total hits. The Yankees left 11 men on base and went 1-14 with runners in scoring position. Baltimore stranded 6 and went 4-8 with RISP. Obviously, the Yankees are the most productive team in the Majors producing 5.37 runs per 9 innings, hitting .245 as a team, they own the #1 OPS in baseball at .775 and hit more homers than anyone. On the season the O’s don’t have great offensive statistics but looking at their last eight games they are 13th in runs scored at 47 total or 5.87 per game. In that same stretch of 8 games, they are hitting .277 with an OPS of .816. The Yankees will send Nestor Cotes Jr. to the mound who has great overall numbers at 7-3 with a 2.63 ERA, but he hasn’t been as sharp in recent games allowing 26 hits and 13 earned runs in his last 25.3 innings of work. The Yankees will get to Orioles starting pitcher Dean Kremer who has good numbers on paper with a 3-1 record and 2.59 ERA, but those statistics may be a little misleading. Kremer has allowed 0 earned runs in four of his last six starts but they came against the Rays, White Sox, Mariners and Angels who all rank 16th or worst in runs scored per game. Seattle and Los Angeles (Angels) are easily two of the worst hitting teams in baseball. We predict another high hit/run game in this series finale.

MLB | Marlins vs Pirates
Play on: Marlins -158 at SC Consensus
My free play is on the Mia Marlins at 1:35 ET.
It's the rubber match of a weekend series between the Marlins and Pirates Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh. The Marlins won the opener 8-1, and the Pirates took the middle game 1-0 on Saturday. 44-50 Miami will send Sandy Alcantara (9-4, 1.76 ERA) to the mound, while 40-55 Pittsburgh counters with Mitch Keller (3-7, 4.55 ERA). At first blush it looks like a pitching mismatch but Pittsburgh fans 9bettors) may want to point out that Keller has allowed three or fewer ERs in seven of his last nine starts, after a stint in the bullpen. Nice try. This IS a pitching mismatch.
Alcantara made the NL All Star team with a Cy Young resume in the first half. He led MLB with 138.1 innings pitched, putting him on pace for about 240, which would be the most since 2014. He has gone at least eight innings NINE times this year, FIVE more than anyone else. Starting pitchers simply don't do this anymore. In 1979, they went at least eight innings 1,336 times. Last year? Just 112. His 1.76 ERA led the NL, his 0.90 WHIP ranked second, and his 5.3 WAR led all players at the break! Keller takes the mound with a career record of 10-24, posting a 5.52 ERA and 1.64 WHIP. There are NO 'sure things" in MLB (or any sport) but this is clearly a pitching mismatch and I'll make a small play on Miami (price is just too high) with Alcantara on the hill.
Good luck...Larry
Mikolas is one of the league's most dependable starters and commonly pitches into the 7th at least. Mahle, while sporting a higher ERA for the season, has been much better than that in his last seven starts with an ERA of 2.54. The bullpens weren't at their best before the break, but they are at least well-rested at the moment. The total today is up there, higher than these two starters deserve. Take the Reds and Cards to go under that total on Sunday.
T.M. Selection: Minnesota Twins.
I like the Minnesota Twins to win this game against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday. The Twins have only played 1 game back from the break but they won over the Tigers 8-4 and I think they can do it again for a mini sweep in this series. Sonny Gray (4-3, 3.71 ERA) is up for the Twins here and he has been great all year. He has looked really bad in July though, pitching 3 bad starts in a row now, but I think he is due for a bounce back here and I don't see him giving up a lot of runs against the Tigers who have had a very bad offense all year. I expect Gray to bounce back and shut the Tigers lineup down here. Rony Garcia (3-2, 4.28 ERA) is up for the Tigers here and he hasn't really started in many games since he started the year in the bullpen, but he has had 2 good starts in a row now. I think he is due for a let down though since he really hasn't been great in a lot of his appearances and he has already posted 2 bad starts against the Twins this year where he gave up a ton of runs. I think he will do the same here and I see Gray shutting down the Tigers. I like the Twins to win this game.
T.M. Prediction: 6-3 Twins.
