#8 Six Percent was a solid second at this level last time out at Finger Lakes. Two starts back, he was a runaway winner against claiming company at Saratoga. #2 Truancy goes for three in a row after a nice win at this level last time out over this track. She should be tough again today.

      freestar

#6 Mister Candy Ride runs first off of the claim for Mike Maker today, while returning off of a long layoff. Sunday’s Alice Springs racing tips & odds | October 16, 2022

        What Alice Springs Races
Where Pioneer Park Racecourse – Stuart Hwy, Connellan NT 0870
        When Sunday, October 16, 2022
        First Race 2:04pm ACST

Racing returns to Pioneer Park this weekend with a five-part card hosted by the Alice Springs Turf Club. We have gone through every race in the book and picked out our best bets for each.
        Race 1 (2.04pm) – $18,375 Ladbrokes Cash In 0-58 Handicap (1200m)

Harbour Express is a narrow top pick after ending a three month drought last Saturday with victory over 1200m (BM54) having led from start to finish. The nine-year-old gelding, who has won 11 races from 85 career starts, drops 2.5kg and based on his last start effort is more than a decent chance of going back to back. Harbour Express has only won five races in 21 appearances in the Red Centre and is currently enjoying his third stint in Alice Springs. The only time the former SA galloper has won the following week was last year (March-April) when he won three straight at Pioneer Park. Harbour Express had a win on July 3 over 1100m (0-58) and in his next six starts the only time he made an impact was on July 24 when he finished second over 1200m (BM54). Mi Mijo, who is lumping 59.5kg, is racing well and is the biggest threat. After five runs in Victoria and NSW at the start of the year, Mi Mijo was a first up fifth in a 1200m maiden in the Alice on July 17 before saluting in a 1400m maiden on August 26. He then finished third over 1200m (Class 2) on September 11 and second over 1400m (BM54) two weeks later. Lisa finished unplaced on three occasions before a last start second over 1200m (0-58) and will benefit from a 3kg claim. The Chaplain was only half a length adrift of Harbour Express in second place last Saturday.
        Best Bet

        Race 1 – Bar Gem silks#3 Harbour Express (4)

        9yo Gelding | T: Lisa Whittle | J: Paul Denton (56.5kg)

        $4.80 with Bet365
        Race 2 (2.44pm) – $18,375 Seppelt Wines Class 2 Handicap (1100m)

Speed Wheel made her debut in a 1212m maiden for 2YOs at Sale in March last year and finished 10th. In her next nine starts in Victoria and NSW, the four-year-old mare could only manage three fourths at Wodonga (1100m), Corowa (1300m) and Wangaratta (1170m). Speed Wheel was spelled last October before having two starts in March finishing unplaced in 1000m maidens at Corowa and Albury. Arriving in Alice Springs the mare finished second on debut in a 1200m maiden on July 17 before posting her first win in a 1200m maiden on August 6. Speed Wheel was second behind the in-form Liberty Blue over 1100m (Class 2) on August 20 before coming seventh over 1200m (Class 2) on September 11. A last start third over 1200m (0-58) on September 25 suggests that the seventh was an aberration. Kikuyu has only had six career starts and in five appearances in Victoria managed a second, a third and two fourths from 1200-1450m before coming fifth in a 1347m maiden at Geelong on July 1. Two weeks ago, Kikuyu finished fifth on his NT debut in an 1100m maiden at Darwin. Ginger Creek makes his NT debut and was far from disgraced in Victoria and NSW before a last start sixth over 1500m (BM58) at Gawler in April. Manhattan Man was racing well before taking a break in June and a 4kg claim enhances his prospects.
        Best Bet

        Race 2 – Bar Gem silks#5 Speed Wheel (2)

        4yo March | T: Will Savage | J: Sonja Wiseman (56kg)

        $5.50 with Unibet
        Race 3 (3.18pm) – $20,475 Alice Springs Brewing Co 0-70 Handicap (1100m)

Intercontinental is hard to beat if he gets to an early lead and that applied last Saturday when he recorded a narrow win over 1200m (0-64). The six-year-old gelding has had 13 starts in the Red Centre after winning two races from 21 starts in NSW and will be aiming to make it six wins at Pioneer Park. The only time Intercontinental achieved back to back wins in the Alice was in February when he saluted over 1100m (Class 2) before backing up two weeks later over 1100m (0-58). He then went off the boil and was spelled. The gelding hasn’t put a foot wrong since returning in July with three wins, a second and a third in six starts. His last start win was no surprise after finishing second behind Liberty Blue over 1000m (0-70) on September 25. Stablemate White Kaps debuted in the Alice in October 2020 and in 17 starts at Pioneer Park has managed three wins, four seconds and two thirds. He has also raced at Darwin, Adelaide River and Tennant Creek – he won at Fannie Bay over 1100m (BM54) in May 2021. After finishing third over 1000m (0-58) on Alice Springs Cup Day (May 1), White Kaps has posted two wins, a second and a third before a last start eighth over 1000m (0-70) on September 25. Elixir debuted in the Red Centre in April and was unplaced six times before an eye-catching second over 1200m (BM76) on September 11.
        Best Bet

        Race 3 – Bar Gem silks#4 Intercontinental (3)

        6yo Gelding | T: Greg Connor | J: Jessie Philpot (58kg)

        $2.30 with Bet365
        Race 4 (3.51pm) – $18,375 BT Daley Painting Benchmark 54 Handicap (1100m)

Bold Tropic finally got that elusive first win at the 13th attempt with an impressive effort last Saturday in a 1000m maiden. The five-year-old gelding debuted on July 23 at Darwin in an 1100m maiden and finished sixth before backing up two weeks later in Alice Springs to grab third place behind Speed Wheel in a 1200m maiden. Bold Tropic then finished sixth behind Liberty Blue – arguably the best horse running around in the Alice at the moment – over 1100m (Class 2) on August 20, but he wasn’t necessarily all that far adrift. Backing up on September 25 against maiden performers and 3YOs at a Class 2 level, Bold Tropic finished second and so a last start victory came as no surprise. He gave Drawn To Win a fair start last weekend before grabbing the lead in the home straight at the 200m mark to prevail by three lengths. Bold Tropic’s best effort in eight Victorian starts was a third in a 1200m maiden at Hamilton in February. In his last two starts before heading north, he managed two fourths at Ararat (1100m) and Stawell (1300m). Vega Prince hasn’t fired a shot in the Red Centre – a first up third in a 1200m maiden on September 25 was followed by a disappointing fourth behind Bold Tropic last Saturday. Can’t see Mackinaw, who won a 1000m maiden at Tamworth in July before departing NSW, Acres Midnight or Kitty Damour winning.
        Best Bet

        Race 4 – Vegas Prince silks#1 Bold Tropic (1)

        5yo Gelding | T: Greg Connor | J: Dan Morgan (60kg)

        $1.90 with Neds
        Race 5 (4.25pm) – $23,100 Gallagher Insurance Handicap (1600m)

Fantasy Eagle made his Alice Springs debut on May 29 and came within a whisker of toppling Miles Prower, an absolute star at Pioneer Park, before coming second over 1200m (0-70). Yet another narrow second behind the consistent Zelring over 1400m (0-64) on June 19 was followed by a fourth behind the in-form Sedona over 1200m (0-64) on July 24. Fantasy Eagle, a 6YO gelding, struck gold on August 20 when he saluted over 1400m (0-70). Just when all seemed to be going well he finished fifth in open company over 1400m behind the talented Star Of Monsoon on August 26. There were excuses that day and although he has only finished third in three attempts over 1600m – that occurred at Newcastle in February (BM64) – he does have the benefit of a 3kg claim. In 20 NSW starts, Fantasy Eagle managed four wins, three seconds, five thirds and a fourth from 1100-1600m. Roughly, a 10YO mare, boasts three wins, a second, a third and a fourth in her past six starts, but is racing over 1600m for the first time and is spotting Fantasy Eagle 7.5kg. Just Hang Up has been a shadow of himself since June, but produced a super effort last Saturday after missing the start disastrously before storming home to go narrowly over 1600m (0-58). Is he back? It could be a tough day for Hard Work Rewards, a nine-year-old mare, and Benzagain.

Horsham Cup Day racing tips & quaddie | October 16, 2022

          What Horsham Cup Day
Where Horsham Racecourse – Central Park, Horsham VIC 3400
          When Sunday, October 16, 2022
          First Race 1:15pm AEDT

          Visit Ladbrokes

Weather permitting, racing heads to western Victoria on Sunday afternoon for the Horsham Cup meeting. With the deluge of rain the state has been experiencing, the Horsham track is currently a Heavy 10 for racing. The rail sticks to the true position and racing is set to commence at 1:15pm AEDT.
          Horsham Cup Top Tip: Teewaters

The Horsham Cup (2100m) is the headline event on Sunday and we expect the Archie Alexander-trained Teewaters to walk away with main portion of the $60,000 on offer. The four-year-old gelding is an out and out stayer and has been racing in much harder company than what he faces on Sunday. The Dundeel gelding is bred to handle the conditions and from barrier 11, if Declan Bates can have this bloke settled in the one-one throughout, he has the runs on the board to suggest he will be hard to beat. He has a runner-up effort to his name in his sole go on Heavy going and at $19 with some online betting sites, we’re happy to side with Teewaters in the Horsham Cup at a big price.
          Best Value

          Race 7 – silks#1 Teewaters (11)

          4yo Gelding | T: Archie Alexander | J: Declan Bates (61kg)

          $19 with Bet365
          Best Bet at Horsham: Vitruvius

Having his first start for the Nick Ryan yard, the formerly Paul Preusker-trained Vitruvius is a clear best bet of the day at Horsham as long as he handles the 62kg first-up. It is Brett Prebble’s sole ride out at Horsham and based on his Flemington jumpout on October 7 on a Heavy 8, he looks the one they have to beat. He was racing in much harder company last campaign and in a BM100 back in May was only beaten four-lengths by subsequent Group 1 winner Tuvalu and Group 1 placegetter Le Don De Vie. Vitruvius is yet to miss the top three in four fresh runs and if he is anywhere near his best, the $4 on offer with online Bookmakers looks to be a great price to load into.
          Best Bet

          Race 6 – silks#4 Vitruvius (2)

          5yo Gelding | T: Nick Ryan | J: Brett Prebble (62kg)

          $4 with Bet365
Next Best Bet at Horsham: Overkill

The Denis Daffy-trained Overkill was an impressive winner at Hamilton first-up on October 8 on a Heavy 10 and a repeat effort on Sunday should see him prove too hard to catch. He managed to lead throughout un that occasion under Jack Hill and despite going up 2kg, he regains the services of John Allen for this assignment. It is always an advantage to be close to the speed at Horsham and from barrier four, we expect Allen to hold the rail, have this bloke kick on the bend and Overkill should be sending us home a winner at a nice price.

            First Race 12:55pm AEST

            Visit Ladbrokes

The Sunshine Coast Turf Club will host another Sunday provincial meeting with eight competitive races throughout the day. The track is currently rated as a Soft 5, and even though we have good weather predicted over the next two days, there is some rain expected to fall during the meeting that might just keep us in the Soft range all day. The rail will be in the 8m position for the entire circuit, while racing kicks off at 12:55pm AEST.
Sunshine Coast Best Bet: Archer’s Paradox

In the second race of the day the David Murphy-trained Archer’s Paradox looks very tough to beat in the Open Handicap over 1000m. After finishing second in a hot race first-up behind Osamu and beating the Queensland boom horse, Weona Smartone, at Eagle Farm over 1000m on October 1, we think that this mare has found a very winnable race here. This daughter of Golden Archer hasn’t won for nearly a year now, but after her impressive return, she may have returned a lot better this time in. With no Osamu or Weona Smartone-like horses in this field, Georgina Cartwright should push forward from barrier six and hold a prominent position to make sure she stays out of trouble and breaks the winning drought.
            Best Bet

            Race 2 – silks#1 Archer’s Paradox (6)

            7yo Mare | T: David Murphy | J: Georgina Cartwright (58kg)

            $2.60 with Betfair
Sunshine Coast Next Best Bet: Alamira

In the Fillies and Mares Maiden Handicap over 1200m, the Annabel Neasham-trained Alamira looks perfectly placed to break her maiden after finding one a little too good last start at this track and trip. This daughter of Pride Of Dubai will appreciate the inside barrier this race after jumping from 12 last start, she will now jump from barrier 2 which should help her sit on-pace and get her in a better rhythm than she was in at her previous run. Stephanie Thornton has chosen to stick with this filly which fills us with more confident and now that she has had three good runs, she should be too good for this inexperienced field.
            Next Best Bet

            Race 4 – silks#10 Alamira (2)

            3yo Filly | T: Annabel Neasham | J: Stephanie Thornton (54.5kg)

            $2.35 with Betfair
Best Value at Sunshine Coast: Kintamani

The first leg of the quaddie is a Colts, Gelding and Entires Maiden Plate over 1200m, where Kintamani for the Chris Munce yard looks to have come through a better maiden and have every chance to win on Sunday. After returning from a spell this son of Headwater ran a solid third where the winner and second horse ran away from the rest of the field, but it seemed like this guy peaked on his run and was possibly a run short of performing at his best. If he gets any luck in running from barrier eight and can be better than midfield as they round the home bend, he should be running over the top of the leaders late.

3rd race [Clm 20000, 6F] – (5) In Sky We Trust (C) was bet down to bet the favorite and lost a stretch duel by a neck. He was claimed for the fourth race in a row and new trainer Carlos Martin brings him back in just eight days. (6) Quick Return drops back into the claiming ranks after trying a top-level NY-bred allowance. He won his prior two starts and was also claimed many times. (3) Pianzi has been in fine form racing at Monmouth and Parx and was claimed for $30,000 two starts back. He has speed figures that are as good as any horse in this field. (2) Winning Drive has three second-place finishes in a row and was claimed back by Rob Atras.

6th race [NY, OC 45K/N2X, 1 1/8 mi] – (2) Truancy won her last two starts after running second in her debut in June. She has increased distance and speed figures in her only three starts with a first-level allowance win at BAQ last month. (7) Therisastormbrewin is back in for a tag for the first time since Rudy Rodriguez took him back in February. He did win at the nine furlong distance at Aqueduct. (3) Curlin’s Wisdom won his last two starts for Linda Rice with a maiden win on the turf and then an allowance that came off the grass. (4) Bossmakinbossmoves tried a Grade 3 last time and was a NY-bred stakes winner before that with two strong performances at the distance.

7th race [Clm 25000 N2L, 7F] – (5) Taco Bean is in excellent form in his last three starts at this level. (1) Hang Tight was claimed out of a second-place finish in similar spot at Saratoga last time with a rally from last. (2) Joey Loose Lips made a big improvement in his second start in a starter allowance which came after a claim. He gets blinkers on now. (6) Mister Candy Ride returns from a February layoff and has several past races that are good enough to win in here.

8th race [Floral Park, 6F TURF] – (2) Lady Edith has three starts since moving to the Clement barn and gets some class relief since racing against much better horses in a couple of Grade 3 stakes. (6) Kept Waiting returned from a short layoff in a third-level allowance at BAQ to win with a career best speed figure. (7) Spun Glass won her last two starts in restricted stakes at Laurel Park and Colonial Downs. (1) Igloo has been off since June and has used her early speed to run well in all seven starts. Breaking from the rail she is likely to head to lead once again.

Best bets: Truancy (6th); Lady Edith (8th). Best value: In Sky We Trust (3rd); Taco Bean (7th).

                No.

                  Sunday, Oct. 16, 2022

By Bob Ehalt and Matt Shifman

                  Hot List Key:

A : A preferred horse to watch B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches in the final 3 minutes and finished 1st through 3rd

                  * - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

1st race – (5) Goodbetterbest missed by a head last time at this level and should emerge victorious today. (4) Lucky Phoenix was third behind the top pick and should be the main rival. (3) Unescorted is worth a look in her debut. (2) Key to Success may perk up in a claimer. Betting strategy: 5 to win, place. Exacta box: 2-3-4-5.

3rd race – (3) Maasai Warrior (D) was bet down from 3-2 to 6-5 but was no match for MSW rivals. Should prevail against claimers. (6) Mint may welcome a two-turn distance. (7) Ra’s Al Ghul fits better in this spot. (2) Grand Jury was third and second at Indianapolis and will be a contender in this field. Betting strategy: 3 to win, place. Exacta box: 2-3-6-7. Doubles: 2-3-6-7 with 2-3-5.

4th race – (5) Unlimitedpotential turned in a big effort in his debut and should graduate from the maiden ranks. (3) Lupo’s Legacy was a game second last time and promises to be the one to fear. (2) Speed Bias is worth a look in his first start since moving to Cox’s barn. Betting strategy: 5 to win, place. Exacta box: 2-3-5.

6th race – (7) Ghostly Girl (B) rallied in the final furlong and missed by a neck in her debut. Seems poised to win here. (4) Julia Shining seems ready for a strong effort in her debut. (9) Theroanrunner is another interesting firster. (1) Penny Arcade figures to be a contender from the rail. Betting strategy: 7 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-4-7-9.

8th race – (1) Hidden Scroll has seen better days but can handle this field. (5) Briefcase Bully should be a main threat in the final furlong. (7) Uber Kirk exits a sharp win and cannot be ignored. (2) Spankster seems to alternate good and bad efforts and he’s due for a good one here. Betting strategy: 1 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-2-5-7.

                  No.

Race 8 - Maiden Claiming - 8.5f on the Turf. Purse: $44000 Class Rating: 78

FOR MAIDENS, FILLIES AND MARES THREE, FOUR, AND FIVE YEARS OLD. THREE YEAR OLDS, 123 LBS.; OLDER, 126 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $45,000, IF FOR $36,000, ALLOWED 4 LBS. MD-BRED AND/OR MD-SIRED HORSES MAY WAIVE CLAIMING PRICE IN THIS RACE.

                        RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                        # 10 THE SWEATY FOX 7/2
                        # 3 FORETELL 6/1
                        # 7 SELF ASSURED 4/1
I think THE SWEATY FOX is a competitive choice. Has decent front-end speed and ought to fare solidly versus this group of horses. Has to be given a shot based on the respectable Equibase Speed Figure earned in the last contest. Looks decent for the conditions of this competition today, showing solid figures in turf route races lately. FORETELL - Ought to be given a shot for this event if only for the quite good Equibase Speed Figure put up in the last competition. The average class fig of 65 makes this horse hard to beat. SELF ASSURED - Has to be given consideration here on the basis of the numbers in the speed department alone.

                          Equibase Special - Race #2 - Post: 4:12pm - Stakes - 5.5 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $300,000 Class Rating: 104 Franklin S. KEE (Grade 3)

                          Rating:

                          #13 ILLEGAL SMILE (IRE) (ML=4/1)
                          #2 CARAVEL (ML=4/1)
                          #11 BROOKE MARIE (ML=8/1)
                          #1 STAR DEVINE (IRE) (ML=8/1)
                          #6 TWILIGHT GLEAMING (IRE) (ML=7/2)

ILLEGAL SMILE (IRE) - Ward is strong in turf sprints. This animal should have no allowances if she doesn't win. This filly is the longer price of the 'split' entry from the barn of Ward. CARAVEL - This mare is rounding her way back into shape. Should race well today. Running on the grass today, you should review a horse's class. This one has the top number in the bunch. I just may give this one a good shot. Should improve off last race where she did run out of the money, but was within 5 lengths at the wire. BROOKE MARIE - Changes tracks from last out at Kentucky Downs to here. Multiple wins on different ovals tell me this horse likes to switch it up, so that's a good sign. Horses out of the barn of Kenneally have been strong on the turf. Should perform well right here. Saez and Kenneally perform well when they work together. It's hard to beat a +117 ROI for a rider and handler. Lets try to beat the chalks with this mare. Just missed last out, but ran a pretty good race. STAR DEVINE (IRE) - Based on her last TrackMaster turf fig alone, I'm going to play this racer. Look for this one to go straight to the finish line at some decent odds in this race. Ran sixth in last race, but not more than 5 from the lead at the finish line. I like the fact that this filly's last speed fig, 106, is tops in this field. TWILIGHT GLEAMING (IRE) - Ward has a very strong win percent in turf sprints. This filly should be ready to win. I like this filly a lot here. She shows a lot of consistency, finishing in the money frequently. A little change in scenery has got to do this animal well. Reading the recent past performance lines, it seems like she likes to visit the winner's circle at different tracks.

Vulnerable Contenders: #10 CHANGE OF CONTROL (ML=5/1), #8 BOUT TIME (ML=6/1),

CHANGE OF CONTROL - She showed not much at all in the last clash. BOUT TIME - Really had to give me lots more in the last race. Never made much of an impact.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - TWILIGHT GLEAMING (IRE) - Put a prime wager on this filly. Utmost in earnings per start and has a lot more to offer as well.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: #11 BROOKE MARIE to win at post-time odds of 8/1 or better and/or #1 STAR DEVINE (IRE) to win at post-time odds of 8/1 or better

                            Keeneland - Race #4 - Post: 2:36pm - Maiden Special - 8.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $100,000 Class Rating: 86

                            Rating:

                            #2 SPEED BIAS (ML=8/1)
                            #5 UNLIMITEDPOTENTIAL (ML=1/2)
                            #6 REDEMPTION TIME (ML=4/1)

SPEED BIAS - He'll most likely come from deep to circle the field and should be in fantastic shape to be victorious. This colt's last speed rating is good enough to triumph here, I'll bet on him right back this time. UNLIMITEDPOTENTIAL - Horse's last race was at Saratoga. Finished second, but had a respectable chunk of the win pool. Could be dangerous in this field. Ran a winning race Aug 13th, but just couldn't conquer the winner. A big drop in class rating points from his August 13th race at Saratoga. Based on that valuable data, I will give this horse the advantage. First-time going 1 1/16 miles. This trainer is a keen one when it comes to stretching out any animal. I'd give them a real good look. This colt is number one in earnings per start. Give the once over to this horse in the saddling ring. REDEMPTION TIME - This is a fairly classic handicapping angle. Play a pony that finished in the place spot in a maiden race last time out but finished well clear of the third horse. Gutierrez was aboard this colt in the last race and was impressed enough to take the animal right back.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1 WAR ROOM (ML=6/1),

WAR ROOM - This gelding garnered a speed figure in his last race which likely isn't good enough today.

GUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - REDEMPTION TIME - Looks like Calhoun has been trying to find the right class for this horse. Took a big drop in class in last race, but returns to a similar class in this affair. A pretty good sign he may win today.

                              # 2 SLEEP OVER 8/1
I've got to go with SUNNY SPOT. He has to be carefully examined given the solid speed numbers. Had one of the most respectable Equibase Speed Figures of this group in his last contest. Has a solid shot in this event if you like back class. PERSEVERANCE - Trainers don't bring horses back this quickly without a good reason. SLEEP OVER - Will most likely compete well in the pace battle which bodes well with this field.
