The Key: The Philadelphia Phillies have a big edge on the rubber over the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight that warrants them being this big of a favorite. Zack Wheeler is 7-5 with a 3.80 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 20 starts this year. Wheeler is 3-0 with a 2.30 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 5 lifetime starts against Pittsburgh. Mitch Keller is 0-2 with an 11.45 ERA in his last 2 starts while yielding 14 earned runs and 5 HR in 11 innings to the Guardians and Angels. Keller is 0-2 with a 7.80 ERA and 1.87 WHIP in 3 lifetime starts against the Phillies, yielding 13 earned runs in 15 innings. Take Philadelphia.
Play: NY Yankees-119 w/Cole vs. Rodriguez (Game 961).
Edges - Yankees: Cole 2.54 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP away this season; and 2.68 ERA with a 0.92 WHIP last seven starts … Orioles: Rodriguez 9.11 ERA with a 2.14 WHIP at home this season; and 9.09 ERA with 1.83 WHIP last seven starts … With Cole in commanding KW form with 26 Ks and 3 BBs in his previous three starts, we recommend a 1* play on the NY Yankees. Thank you, and good luck, as always.
New York has won four of its last five and with its ace on the mound, we like the visitors to find a way to come out on top in this important divisional matchup. The Orioles have now lost two straight after collapsing in Philadelphia earlier in the week. This is a massive starting pitching mismatch working in favor of New York though, and we're surprised by this line, as Gerrit Cole (9-2, 2.78 ERA) goes up against the erratic Grayson Rodriguez (2-2, 6.91.) By our point of view, this represents the very definition of "great line value;" lay the price, the play is New York!
