#4 G T Five Hundred exits a couple of 2nd place finishes with similar company and comes over as the early 8-5 favorite. #3 Chisholm Trail has a couple of races in recent form that suggest he should be quite competitive with this bunch. #5 Mohaafeth is 2nd off the layoff and fits well here. Top Picks #4, #3 and #5

2nd Race
Race 2 is the start of the early Pick 4. #2 Queen of Missoula looks to have the most upside in this field of Maidens. With only 2 starts under her belt she should be sharp and able to improve with these. #6 Rita's Onthe Beach was well beaten last out at Kentucky Downs but look for her to improve significantly in her 3rd career start and boost exotics. #4 Stagflation looks like she could move up with the added distance. Top Picks #2, #6 and #4

3rd Race
#2 Choctaw Bingo looks to be in top form coming off a brief freshening. She has the early speed to take this field gate to wire. #6 Love of My Heart is on the drop after the recent claim. She does have a win over the Keeneland course and at this distance. #4 Brewhouse moves back to the dirt and draws Tyler Gaffalione to the irons. Top Picks #2, #6 and #4

4th Race
#2 Collected Success looks to be spotted for the win. She turned in a decent effort in her debut and should find success at this level. #8 Choctaw Grace is an improving sort and has the 2 turn experience. #7 Above the Sun is making a significant drop in class and adds blinkers. Top Picks #2, #8 and #7

5th Race
Race 5 is the start of the Pick 6 and the Keeneland Turf Pick 3. #4 No Nay Hudson has been very competitive with stakes company sprinting on the grass in past form. He is 2nd off the bench here and look for him to be extremely sharp for this one. #1 Souper Quest has the recent Beyer numbers to impress and his quickness out of the gate could make him tough to catch. #7 Chiseler could close fast enough to land a share. Top Picks #4, #1 and #7

6th Race
Race 6 is the start of the Pick 5. #8 Antares last 3 starts suggests he should find this 7 furlong distance to his liking. He has the early foot to gain early position and he draws Irad Ortiz, Jr to the saddle. #5 Track Mate is 3rd off the layoff and his last 2 should have him sharp and confident coming in to this one. #4 Can't Hush This likes this racetrack and deserves a look. Top Picks #8, #5 and #4

7th Race
Race 7 is the start of the Late Pick 4. #4 Tunisian Spring just missed in his debut to land a 2nd at this distance. Barn has strong win percentages with this type. #1 Wicked Again is making his 3rd off the layoff and this well bred colt should show up tough. He brings a high Tomlinson number for this distance. #2 Citizen brings a sharp work for his first off the layoff and looks capable of part. Top Picks #4, #1 and #2

8th Race
#2 Amidst Waves looks to be the one to beat here. She is undefeated in 3 starts at this distance and has an experience edge over most of the field. #10 Pinotslilgirl draws a tough post but she has shown the early foot to overcome. Her maiden win last out was impressive. #6 Committee of One has run a couple of sharp races finishing 2nd in both career starts. She has the potential to put it all together here. Top Picks #2, #10 and #6

9th Race
The Grade 1 Juddmonte Spinster draws a field of 7 including one our favorites #3 Nest. We seldom pick against the gorgeous filly. #2 Idiomatic is 6 for 7 this year with a 2nd place finish in the Ruffian. She has beaten Nest in past form over a sloppy Saratoga track and of course she is capable of the win here. #4 Le Da Vida looks to be the one to close strong enough for part. Top Picks #3, #2 and #4

10th Race
#2 Gorilla Trek overcame a rough trip in his debut to get the win after a green stretch run. Leparoux stays in the irons and this well bred colt could get the job done here at price. #10 Nomos ran with Grade 3 company last out and landed a respectable 4th. That being only his 2nd career start look for him to move forward off that one. He also adds blinkers here. #1 Palm Tree took to the grass last time out breaking his maiden at Kentucky Downs. He draws a tough post but like him for part. Top Picks #2, #10 and #1

RACE 4

While I’m not way against either favorite in this state-bred allowance affair, I’m not exactly thrilled with them either. Clover Street (#6) has run pretty well at this level before, finishing second in May and June against tougher fields than the one she encounters here. They experimented with turf last time, but she’s more of a dirt horse and is just getting back on the right surface. Big Bean Christine (#2) has run some of the fastest speed figures in this field, and has done so over wet tracks, which is more than her main rival can claim. She arguably hasn’t been at her best in two starts since returning from a layoff this summer for Ray Handal. However, she faced tougher rivals on both occasions and is getting some subtle class relief this time. I’m just taking a shot against them with a horse who I think has upside. Queens Masterpiece (#3) was visually impressive winning her debut as a 2-year-old, making a wide, early move on the far turn to take over before holding off the closers. She actually took a step forward despite losing her second start. She didn’t break that sharply but again made a nice move around the far turn before flattening out. A poor start compromised her when last seen, but she also had little chance to make an impact against Maple Leaf Mel. She’s now returning from a layoff getting back on the dirt, and she might be capable of running a faster speed figure with routine improvement.

Fair Value:
#3 QUEENS MASTERPIECE, at 4-1 or greater


RACE 7

Unfortunately, this Noble Damsel will come off the turf despite having already been postponed twice. Gerrymander (#1) is technically entered for turf, but she would be much the horse to beat on the dirt. Her recent speed figures are consistently strong, and she’s shown increased versatility with her running style this year. The only problem is that the losses are piling up, and she keeps losing despite getting perfect trips in her last couple of starts. Movie Moxy (#8) did finish ahead of her when they met on June 24, but Gerrymander has sustained her good form since then whereas Movie Moxy has been on the shelf. She’s also been a vet scratch on 3 separate occasions since that race, so she’s a little hard to trust returning from a layoff. I want to try to beat these two with Sunset Louise (#9). She’s also entered for turf, but I’m sure her connections would be happy for this race to come off. She threw in a clunker in the Johnstone Mile last time, but may not have been on the best part of the track that day. Her prior form is pretty strong, particularly the victory three back where she finished ahead of Sacred Wish, who nearly won a Grade 1 in her subsequent start, and Just Katherine, who returned to finish second to Grade 1 Alabama winner Randomized. I am a little concerned about Sunset Louise racing without Lasix again, since she has run her best races on that anti-bleeding medication. Yet she loves wet tracks and a mile is her best distance.

RACE 1: Post: 1:00 PT Grade: B-
Main ticket: (in order of preference): 2-Eight Clap; 1-Invincible; 4-Six Maximus.
Backups/Savers/Underneath: 9-Teddy’s Triumph.

Forecast: Eight Clap closed a gap in his debut sprinting at Del Mar to be a decent third and seems sure to build on that effort while getting an extra furlong to work with. A solid, healthy work tab since raced gives indication that a significant forward move is possible. Invincible didn’t get the cleanest of runs when a distant fourth as the favorite in a turf miler for juveniles at Del Mar but with the addition of blinkers the son of Uncle Mo should have every right to step forward. It would be somewhat surprising if gate-to-wire tactics aren’t employed under noted speed rider Edwin Maldonado. Sir Maximus didn’t do a whole lot in his sprint debut on dirt but we’re thinking with the switch to Juan Hernandez the Michael McCarthy-trained colt will get serious today. The rail post at Del Mar sprinting is death for a first timer starting two year old; today we’ll find out if he can run.

RACE 2: Post: 1:31 PT Grade: B-
Main ticket: (in order of preference): 1-Minedandrefined; Casia.
Backups/Savers/Underneath: none.

Forecast: Minedandrefined plummets in class seeking her winning level and may have found it in this restricted (nw-2) $16,000 seller for fillies and mares. She has back speed figures good enough to beat this field and sports the always popular blinkers off angle, so we’re thinking that the Sean McCarthy-trained filly seems fairly solid at 8/5 on the morning line. Casia looked decent breaking her maiden in a $32,000 claimer at Los Alamitos and really won’t have to improve much to act with these. Toss her in somewhere.

Main ticket (in order of preference): 2-Madison Rae
Backups/savers/Underneath: none.

Forecast: Madison Rae displayed a bit of promise in her debut when a willing third at Del Mar and not much more will be needed to graduate in this modest state-bred sprint for juvenile fillies. We’re not entirely sure why Juan Hernandez doesn’t ride her back (he has no mount in the race) but we’re not going to worry about it. She’s 9/5 on the morning line and unless a first timer gets some unexpected action the Peter Miller-trained filly likely will go lower on the tote.

Main ticket (in order of preference): 3-Tiergarten; 6-Irish Patsy.
Backups/Savers/Underneath: none.

Forecast: Tiergarten has won two of her last three in clever fashion with rising speed figures and looks well-spotted to continue her winning ways in this starter allowance turf miler for fillies and mares. She has good tactical speed and a prior win over this course and distance. Irish Patsy represents the most dangerous of the closing types and is reunited with “win rider” Umberto Rispoli. She’s another with prior winning form over the local lawn and her speed figure two runs back makes her a major player.

Main ticket (in order of preference): 3-Bad Sneakers
Backups/Savers/Underneath: none.

Forecast: Bad Sneakers stretches out for the first time (love that angle), removes blinkers (love that angle even more), and earned a career top speed figure when fourth in a hot race at this level at Del Mar last time out. The Gun Runner gelding retains Juan Hernandez and seems certain to be the controlling speed. He’s 2-1 on the morning line and we’d take that price right now in the win pool and as a rolling exotic single.

Main ticket (in order of preference): 3-Endlessly; 4-Pour Dompter.
Backups/Savers/Underneath: 2-Ngannou.

Forecast: Endlessly is perfect in two starts, including an authoritative score in the Del Mar Juvenile Turf Stakes last month. He produced a strong forward move in the speed figure department and it wouldn’t be surprising if he does the same today. The son of Oscar Performance likes to settle early and blast home, and regular pilot Juan Hernandez knows him well. Pour Dompter is an intriguing invader from France making his U.S. debut for Phil D’Amato. His form overseas puts him in the hunt with these.

Main ticket (in order of preference): 7-Ghost of Midnight; 5-Midnight Fury; 10-Houndstooth.
Backups/Savers/Underneath: none.

Forecast: Ghost of Midnight beat nothing when winning his debut facing maiden $20,000 company at Del Mar, but he did it stylishly and today is protected in a sign of confidence. He may need a boost in the speed figure department but could easily have it in him. He was always cut out to be a nice horse but didn’t make it to the races until the back end of his 5-year-old campaign. Midnight Fury has numbers that can win and has good, solid, consistent, recent form while Houndstooth should have clear sailing outside, projects to settle in mid-pack, and then have his chance from the quarter pole home.

Main ticket (in order of preference): 6-Soho; 3-Dreamfyre.
Backups/Savers/Underneath: 4-Buttercream Babe.

Forecast: Soho was a visually pleasing debut turf sprint at Del Mar with a solid number and has the pedigree to step forward considerably with this stretch out in trip. She’s worked quite well since her win so we’re expecting a significant forward move by the John Sadler-trained filly, who is squarely priced at 5-1 on the morning line. Dreamfyre is unbeaten in two main track sprint races and today will stretch out and switch to grass. She’ll take them as far as she can on the front end.

Main ticket (in order of preference): 2-Big Novel; 7-Wishtheyallcouldbe.
Backups/Savers/Underneath: 10-Lady Maryann.

Forecast: Big Novel got buried in the quicksand from her poor rail draw in a similar state-bred allowance optional claiming sprint at Del Mar last month and had no chance. She should do much better today over a main track that we know she likes, and with a bullet recent five furlong drill (:59 flat) last week she appears spot on for a major effort. Wishtheyallcouldbe is a genuine and consistent sprinter and a perfect two-for-two over the Santa Anita main track. She’s likely to get outrun early but be heard from late.

RACE 10: Post: 5:41 PT Grade: B
Main ticket (in order of preference): 3-Maltese Falcon; 5-Aligato.
Backups/Savers/Underneath: none.

Forecast: Maltese Falcon is a lightly raced sophomore improving with experience and maturity, and after winning the La Jolla Handicap-G3 and then falling just a head short in the Del Mar Derby-G1, he’ll tackle older rivals while returning to the first level allowance ranks. The Leonard Powell-trained gelding can turn it on late, retains Juan Hernandez, and with good racing luck and a decent pace up front he should be along in time. Aligato has hit the board in his last four starts and is strong on speed figures. The veteran gelding has had just 11 career outings and even at age six has further room for improvement.

#2 BRAVO KATE rallied to be third over a speed favouring track in her August 20 debut, then ran evenly in a paceless maiden special weight over the outer turf. Full- brother Hank Ollie has developed into a decent turf router; she should appreciate the drop back in for $40,000. #5 MAGICAL TRICK has been picking up checks consistently in main track sprints and now switches things up. Her breeding doesn’t look bad for a turf route, and she isn’t hooking a super tough looking field. #4 CAMAROSA pressed the pace and came up empty in the same September 10 race that Magical Trick exits, finishing last. The blinkers are off for the first time; daughter of Midshipman is a half to route Stakes-winner
Full Screen. #6 INITTOWINIT has shown nothing in two tries at the maiden special weight level. She is bred to run all day and may need a few starts to figure everything out; the class relief could help.

#6 JIMMIES BIG DAY had to steady coming up to the 3/8ths pole and kept on decently despite finishing seventh when making his first start of the year on September 17. He ran his career-best Beyer in his lone turf try last year. #3 MIDNIGHT RAMBLIN was bounced at the start, then took another minor bump turning for home when rallying to be a credible fifth on September 15. His turf form is solid; should fare well with these. #1 JMR SPEEDY ESCAPE rallied to be second behind the speedy Smart Coverage in an inner turf dash on September 22. Both of his efforts over the inner turf have been respectable; figures to be a pace threat in his first try on the outer course. #4 SILVER SMOKE blasted to the lead but got leg weary and finished fourth against OS/$40,000 types two weeks ago. We’ll see how far he can go today.

#3 FABELMAN has been a fringe player in both of his tries against maiden special weight company on the Tapeta. He has plenty of turf pedigree, out of Grade 3- winner Bel Air Beauty, who has produced multiple Graded Stakes-winning sprinter Stacked Deck. #6 HATMAKER GIZMO was never beating the pacesetting winner but showed good finishing interest when making his return to the races on September 17. Ami’s Gizmo threw recent turf Stakes-winner Zippy Gizmo; we’ll see how this one handles the grass. #8 NO MORE OPTIONS had a stalking trip behind a three-horse duel but was unable to run down the top two when racing in an Ontario-bred Auction-restricted race on September 17. He adds lasix for his third attempt. #7 HE SHOOTS HE WINS got into stalking position after breaking slowly but faded when debuting two weeks ago. Son of Society’s Chairman may like the turf route.

#4 COLLECTIVE FORCE made his seasonal debut over 10 furlongs in the Singspiel, setting the pace before emptying out. That’s a very tough ask for a horse coming off of a layoff; multiple Stakes-placed gelding should fare better this time. #2 ELUSIVE KNIGHT made a strong rally to finish second behind 2021 Prince of Wales-winner Haddassah in an N2X/$50,000 over this distance in his first start off of the claim. Deep closer needs the trip to work out but should make his presence felt at this level. #3 TAPSATIONAL failed to threaten in an N2X/$50,000 over a wet inner turf two back but dropped back in for this tag and was able to prevail on September 10. He should
be close to the pace here. #9 STEAK AND CHEESE had a wide trip when wheeling back in eight days for his first start off of the claim on September 10, finishing fourth. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him earn a small share despite the class rise.

#6 SOUPER JUSTIFIED showed speed but spit the bit when debuting in a turf sprint in July. He has had time off and has since been gelded; son of Justify should like the longer distance. #3 JOKESTAR failed to fire after a slow break when debuting on the inner turf but showed significant improvement second time out, finishing second behind the well-meant Chiefswood second-timer Piper’s Factor. Blinkers are added. #4 MOTION GRANTED had a wide journey but ran on well enough when finishing a non-threatening fourth over a mile on the outer turf on September 17. He gets on the synthetic for the first time. #1 BEDARD takes the blinkers off after showing some tactical speed but failing to finish in two tries on turf with them on. Though his lone synthetic race looks poor, it was a very solid group in that five furlong dash.

#6 SPLIT STRIKE opened up his advantage in midstretch and never looked threatened when holding off stablemate Marco T to win a New York-bred race at Saratoga on September 4. He hooks a field consisting of mainly fillies and could be tough here. #3 DANCING DUCHESS ran a big second in the Soaring Free behind stablemate Golden Canary, who also re-appears here, but had a troubled journey in the Natalma and had to settle for a midpack finish. Of all the Casse charges here she has been the one to catch my eye the most. #4 PIPIT showed speed but failed to hold in her debut, but was able to come from off the pace when taking on a short field of boys in the Victoria, a race in which the second and third-place finishers came back to win Stakes in their next starts. She has had gaps in her breezes between that start and now; we’ll see what she shows in her turf debut. #1 RHAPSODY draws the rail after trying to overcome the extreme outside gate in the Natalma, where she forced the pace before emptying out. She may appreciate the cutback to five furlongs.

Race 7

#1 FEV ROVER (IRE) disappointed although she just narrowly missed place in Moira’s romp in the Canadian on September 9. Her wins this season have been very impressive, especially her last-to-first sweep in the Nassau; we’ll see if she can rebound. #6 MOIRA had been racing well not showing her explosiveness to start the season, but returned to form when destroying her company in the Canadian. The 2022 Queen’s Plate has no problems with the 10 furlong distance and seems like a deserving favourite. #4 WITH THE MOONLIGHT (IRE)
makes her first start since a disappointing effort in the Dahlia at Newmarket in May. She has had a remarkably consistent career otherwise; the Godolphin/Appleby combo is always dangerous here. #7 CONSUMER SPENDING has won half of her 12 career starts. After winning a pair of Grade 3s at Monmouth she came running to be a very close sixth in the Ballston Spa at Saratoga; would not be a huge surprise despite the acid test.

#2 ROCKEFELLER has been on the sidelines for well over a year now after finishing last as one of the favourites in the Gotham. The one-time Kentucky Derby contender is a wild-card in his return to the races trying the Tapeta for the first time, but he doesn’t hook the toughest field for this class. #7 DOLDER GRAND has knocked on the door several times in this condition but has yet to break through. He could be a speed threat in his third start off of the layoff. #3 CRUDEN BAY has always been a very nice racehorse but has taken a step forward this year. In his most recent start he was very game, grinding down the speedy J P Hellish in an N1X/$32,000 on September 16. The jump to the N2X/$50,000 could be a tough one but he seems like he’s the best he’s ever been. #6 JOURNEYMAN has been a very solid claim, running some big efforts over the Gulfstream Tapeta including a starter allowance win two- back and a second behind the very tough Carrothers in
April. The blinkers go on here.

Race 9
#4 Nations Pride (IRE)

#2 Dynadrive
#4 NATIONS PRIDE (IRE) nearly won the Dubai Turf on Dubai World Cup night, finishing third by just 3⁄4 lengths, before heading to Germany for a comfortable score in Munich. Already a Grade 1-winner in North America, he looks like the class of the field. #3 PALAZZI looks to extend his win streak to four after earning his first Graded Stakes win in the Singspiel on September 9. Casse-charge seems to thrive over this course and looks like the most intriguing of the local contenders. #8 ROYAL CHAMPION (IRE) makes his North American debut here. The Wolferton-winner came back at York to be a good third in the Group 2 York Stakes; hopefully he can work out a trip from the outside. #2 DYNADRIVE closed strongly to be second behind stablemate Starting Over when making his first start off of the claim in the 12 furlong Colonial Cup. A fringe player in a few long distance Graded events in the past, he could be live in his second start for these connections.

#4 COUNTY FINAL had a troubled trip when finishing sixth in the Bold Venture, then shipped down to Kentucky Downs where he was able to win a high level allowance event. Grey son of Oxbow should thrive over the E P
Taylor turf course. #6 OCEANIC put in a huge effort but was outfinished by Lucky Score when shipping up for the HIghlander, then ran on to be fourth in a salty group in the Kentucky Downs Turf Sprint Preview at Ellis on August 6. He has had two months to freshen up; could be a little overlooked. #10 ICE CHOCOLAT (BRZ) put in a couple of strong efforts in Saratoga behind Casa Creed, but came up a little flat when returning to Woodbine in the Woodbine Mile. He clearly has the ability to win Stakes in North America; just needs things to line up for him. #1 DREAM SHAKE looked strong when winning the Connaught Cup over this course on July 23, but regressed when racing wide in the Kentucky Downs Turf Sprint. He draws well for his return to Woodbine.

If he can work out a trip he will be dangerous. #1 SO CALLED VACATION had some stretch traffic when finishing a head in front of Coherence last time. He has been a bit of a hit-or-miss type this year; should be dangerous with a clean trip. #3 CHAIRMAN RAINBOW came up empty when taking a shot in the
Elgin Stakes, but had not run a bad race in five starts against maidens before that and could easily rebound here. #4 HUNGRY WOLF has had three runner-up finishes in five starts this year, and has been effective on the Tapeta and both turf courses; should be able to grab another check.
