We've got a gut feel SPRINGBRIDGE JIM is going to get the score. Worth serious consideration here given the numbers in the speed rating department alone. That 80 speed rating clocked in the last gathering puts this nice horse in the mix in this event. With Shepherd in the race bike, watch out for this standardbred to get the score. TUF COOPER - Can't overlook based on TrackMaster Speed Ratings which have been excellent (77 avg) of late. This entrant has shown us some ability in the past, just look at the 79 avg class rating. Should play well in here. WRANGLER CASH - Composite pace ratings show this horse has what it takes to end up in the winner's circle in this one.

Feel pretty confident putting some green stuff down on ALWAYS A GOOD TIME. Cannot put a finger on it, but strongly consider this horse for a wager. OSPREY DELTA - Has one of the most respectable win rates in the pack and may be able to add to those statistics right here. The group knows that speed is very important in harness racing. This interesting entrant will unlock our way to a nice top prize. JUMPSHOT - The group saw this horse's name on a t-shirt. Call it our coffee house play, worth a small bet.

We've got a feeling DUCKDODGENDIVE is going to get the victory. This nice horse looks dangerous. Take a good look at the 84 average TrackMaster speed fig. He has really strong class numbers, averaging 85. Worth considering for a bet here. Deserves a shot given the successful win percent he sports. SOUTHEASTER - Definitely the class of the pack with an average rating of 84. A nice pick. Could beat this grouping, just look at the TrackMaster Speed Rating - 89 - from his last showing. CONQUEST AS - Could surprise us at a nice price. Don't leave out.

Starters win from this hole at North Side Downs with better than average regularity, suggesting this super wager. BOBJOHNSKI - Can't overlook based on TrackMaster Speed Ratings which have been exemplary (68 avg) of late. This interesting entrant looks very good considering the high class figures. Not a good idea to throw out of any exotics. FINER THINGS - This mare has been performing against some of the most competitive horses in this field recently.

                      FAIR VALUE PLAYS
(Fair Value: These are the odds at which I could reasonably bet each of the horses listed. Wagering decisions should be based on the actual odds. The best value option will not necessarily be the top pick.)

                      RACE 4

Vergara (#2) is clearly the horse to beat in a pretty soft edition of the Grade 3 Long Island. She won at this level two back at Kentucky Downs, though she got a great trip staying close to the rail during a time when that path was beneficial. She finished off the board at a short price in the Dowager, but the trip didn’t work out nearly as well. She was forward early, but Rosario made a miscalculation taking her further off the pace into the clubhouse turn, and she ended up getting shuffled out of position. She figures to get a better stalking trip here, drawn perfectly outside of likely leader Whatlovelookslike. Many will perceive her main rival to be the improving R Calli Kim (#4), who has ascended from the claiming ranks to be a threat in this stakes event. However, she is getting a real class test after beating weaker company in all of her recent starts. That was not a strong allowance field that she beat last time at Keeneland, hence her strong favoritism that day. She’s a closer who won’t get as much pace as last time, and I don’t expect her to offer much value. My top pick is Atomic Blonde (#3), who may not get the respect she deserves off her poor showing in the E. P. Taylor. That was a very tough edition of that race, and she just didn’t’ seem to be handling the going, which was surely worse than “good.” She had been in reasonably strong form prior to that, and I do think she’s best over these marathon distances, so I like her stretching back out. Some may argue that she’s tailing off, but I think she’s had some legitimate excuses in her losses.

                      Fair Value:
#3 ATOMIC BLONDE, at 5-2 or greater

                      RACE 6

Recent maiden winner Notinamillionyears (#3) is likely to attract plenty of support as she steps up against winners for the first time. This filly was pretty impressive rallying to victory in that maiden race going a mile back in October, swooping around the field to go from last to first. I just have two issues with her. I wasn’t thrilled with the field that she defeated, and think she’s facing a tougher bunch this time. I’m also not convinced that added ground is going to benefit her as a daughter of No Nay Never. I’m willing to look elsewhere at a short price. One of the more intriguing alternatives is French import In Time (#9). This filly kept good company during her 3-year-old season, but was a cut below the best French fillies in her division. She didn’t get the best trip when she returned from a layoff in the Cape Verdi in Dubai over the winter, encountering traffic in the lane while making a belated run. She got back on track in France earlier this year, albeit with a favorable front-running trip. She figures to come from off the pace in her U.S. debut for Christophe Clement. I think she fits on class, but I’m just concerned she might need a start. My top pick is Swoop to Finish (#4). This filly displayed some hints of talent in Canada last year, but had trouble putting it all together. She returned for Bill Mott this year and has improved with each outing. She didn’t seem to relish the 1 1/4 miles over a boggy turf course two back, and she fared much better last time. That Saratoga race was dominated up front, and she was the only horse to make a significant late impact trying to close. Other horses who were against the pace scenario in that Sep. 1 event have since returned to improve. Her 108 TimeformUS Speed Figure stacks up very favorably against her competition here, and she may just be rounding into form for Mott.

                      Fair Value:
#4 SWOOP TO FINISH, at 5-1 or greater

                      RACE 7

This $20k claimer is one of the most confusing races on the card. You can build a case for many runners in this field, so I don’t want to settle for a short price on the entry led by Two Thirty Five (#1). This horse obviously makes plenty of sense, and his tactical speed should be an asset in a race that features a murky pace scenario. I just didn’t think he had much of an excuse last time, and now he’s meeting a tougher field despite dropping in claiming price. The best horse in the race is clearly Market Alert (#6), but it’s hard to trust him as he drops in class off the claim for David Jacobson. His form had really tailed off for prior connections, and this placement doesn’t exactly inspire confidence that he’s about to turn things around. There are a couple of horses drawn outside who merit consideration. Gentleman Joe (#10) makes plenty of sense as he makes his first start off the claim for Rick Dutrow, whose barn has been sending out plenty of live runners lately. I normally don’t like the layoff after a claim, but he is bringing this horse back with the claiming tag waived. He's drawn well outside for this distance and has prior form that would make him awfully tough for this group to handle. At a bigger price, I could also use a horse like Beachwalker (#9) in exotics. He’s another looking to get back on track, but his last race was a step in the right direction, and I think stretching back out to a mile could suit him. This is the time of year that Randi Persaud’s barn typically comes alive. My top pick is Invisible War (#3). This horse isn’t the most trustworthy either, but at least he’s going to be the right price. He got no respect off the claim for Oscar Barrera last time, but actually ran a nice race, finishing less than 2 lengths behind Two Thirty Five. He didn’t get the most energetic ride that day, taking back early before getting steered into traffic for the stretch drive. He actually had plenty of run through the late stages, but just found clear sailing too late to make a significant impact. He’s not as classy as some others in here, but his form has been reasonably strong as of late and he might get overlooked.

                      Fair Value:
#3 INVISIBLE WAR, at 8-1 or greater

                      RACE 8

It will be very interesting to see how much pace develops in this Artie Schiller. Last year’s winner of the race Big Everest (#4) is back looking to wire the field again, and he has proven that he needs to control up front to have his best chance. Therefore, the presence of Masen (#8) could be a thorn in his side, since he’s another who does his best running when he’s forwardly placed. Masen was pretty aggressive coming off the layoff going 6 furlongs at Woodbine, but he may have just needed that race for fitness. I’m not thrilled with the chances of either one. Big Everest has more recency, but I didn’t like the way he faded last time even after getting loose up front. Pioneering Spirit (#1) is arguably the horse to beat, as he seeks to conclude a stellar 2023 season with another stakes victory. I don’t care much about his last race, where he beat one rival on dirt. Prior to that Linda Rice had twice tried to stretch him out to marathon trips against Grade 1 company, and he’s just not that kind of horse. His Bernard Baruch makes him a major player here, and I don’t mind the slightly shorter distance for him. There are some new faces in this lineup stepping up out of allowance company. The most interesting of those might be Exact Estimate (#6), who didn’t get the best trip two back at Saratoga but has otherwise run consistently well in his surrounding turf starts. He comes out of a race where he made a decisive 3-wide rush to the lead off the far turn before the margin narrowed late. I like this shorter distance for him, but I’m a little worried he could get overbet for popular connections. My top pick is Jerry the Nipper (#5). All of his stakes attempts have come against New York-bred company, but he’s faced some strong rivals in those races. Horses like City Man and Spirit of St. Louis would be among the favorites in this spot, and he’s been highly competitive against them. He just needs to get a better trip than last time, when Jose Ortiz was passive in the early stages, taking him off the pace in a race that lacked any real speed. He ended up getting pushed wide coming around the far turn, letting both of his primary rivals get the jump on him. He’s better than that result. His speed figures fit well here, and his versatile running style coupled with some additional pace signed on should ensure that he works out the right trip.

                      Fair Value:
#5 JERRY THE NIPPER, at 7-2 or greater

                      RACE 9

I view Beach Cruiser (#7) as a very likely winner of this finale. This filly was a little chilly on the board in her debut, and just seemed like one that needed the race for experience. She got a good trip, sitting in behind the speeds early, but was just spinning her wheels when she was swung out into the clear for the stretch drive. Watching that race, she appears to be a horse who will appreciate the switch to grass, given her higher knee action and suspension to her stride. The way she traveled well and then came off the bridle when asked is also indicative of a horse with turf inclination. The pedigree is certainly there, as a half-sister to turf stakes winner Silver Skillet. Catalina Cruiser hasn’t yet established himself as a sire, but he does have pedigree to be a turf influence. Furthermore, Christophe Clement is 9 for 34 (26%, $3.45 ROI) with maidens switching to turf for the first time in sprints, and he’s 8 for 26 (31%, $3.27 ROI) with second time starters going from dirt to turf in sprints over the past 5 years. He’s entered this filly against the boys, which speaks to the fact that he doesn’t want to waste a chance to get her on turf before the end of the season. I would primarily use her with two others. Diannesretiring (#3) is another switching surfaces, and she does have pedigree, if not quite as convincing as that of the top pick. I also want to use first time starter The Big Torpedo (#8), whose last workout matches Summer in Adriane, who just missed on debut here against open company earlier in the week. This colt doesn’t have a ton of turf pedigree, but might be live for a capable barn.

                      Fair Value:
#7 BEACH CRUISER, at 8-5 or greater

out; the dam of GRAZIA won her career debut and produced three foals, all winners, including a debut winner. First-time starter AFFAIR
is by Runhappy, whose juvenile progeny have won first out at an average rate of 11 percent. The gray filly debuts with a solid work pattern,
though her dam preferred running long on turf. AIR FORCE THUNDER also appears to have trained well for her debut; last-out runnerup GIRL OF MY DREAMS is the only entrant with racing experience. With just five entered in this maiden sprint, wagering value is
                        minimal.

                        Second Race
                        1. Table for Ten 2. Zimba Warrior 3. Jamming Eddy
TABLE FOR TEN stands out in this $16k claiming starter allowance, based on his last-out N1X win at Golden Gate and third at this class
level over the Del Mar turf in summer. His rivals in this small field are mostly sprinters or dirt runners. 'TEN figures to start at a short price
for Northern California-based trainer Bill McClean, whose turf-route favorites are 7-for-14 over the past five years according to
Formulator. ZIMBA WARRIOR is a nine-time winner on dirt (including nighttime races vs. Quarter Horses), but his turf form is
uncertain. 'WARRIOR tried turf only once, and misfired. 'WARRIOR was re-claimed from a win last out by Steve Knapp, who won with
the gelding in summer 2022. JAMMING EDDY stretches out with fast sprint figures. He has a shot to steal it depending on how much
pressure is applied by stretch-out RED CROSS KNIGHT. MO REWARDS might be ranked too low; he finished a creditable third last out
                        vs. better.

                        Third Race
                        1. Elegant 2. Pacific Rose 3. Flynn's Chance
ELEGANT bombed as the heavy favorite her first two starts in fast-pace sprints, but now stretches to a mile as the controlling speed. She
could be loose setting softer splits; she might be gone. PACIFIC ROSE drops from a respectable fourth in a Grade 2. Each start better
than the start before, she is the high-figure filly in the field. FLYNN'S CHANCE was no match for runaway stablemate Tamara first out in
a sprint, but two turns should be more her deal. 'CHANCE is a full sister to graded route winner Moonlight d'Oro. NAFISA, a $1.8 million
yearling, makes her career debut at two turns. She is a stablemate of the top choice.

                        Fourth Race
                        1. Mahina 2. Precocious Times 3. Rugelach
The pick six sequence ($1 wager, traditional 70-30 split, no jackpot) begins with a N2L starter allowance in which MAHINA gets top
billing based on her pedigree and impressive maiden-62.5k turf-mile win last out. She ran faster each successive quarter-mile, won going
away, and has finally put it all together. Her dam Malibu Pier was a three-time graded winner long on turf; MAHINA enters fall in peak
form with room to improve after just six starts. This field has plenty of speed to flatter her rally. The pace scenario also benefits
PRECOCIOUS TIMES, who finished in the money every start following her maiden win four back. 'TIMES will be rolling late, while
RUGELACH is probably best of the speed. She led to deep stretch last time and got collared. Two who finished behind her won next time
out. The challenge for RUGELACH is pace. At least two others have speed: TICKLE MY FANCY and ROPERS N WRANGLERS.

                        Fifth Race
                        1. Take Caramie 2. Tiff With Jimmy 3. Unkept Secret
TAKE CARAMIE drops from Cal-bred maiden special-weight to maiden-20, switches to dirt, drew an outside post, adds blinkers, and
showed enough run in her first two starts to suggest she can handle this bunch from the outside post. This is her first start on dirt; she has
worked well on dirt. TIFF WITH JIMMY did not have a visible alibi finishing fourth as the odds-on favorite last out in a similar race at
SA, but she ran well over the DMR track in summer and gets Flavien Prat. UNKEPT SECRET will be rolling from behind. She is a
contender based on her runner-up effort last out. CHEVY GIRL drops back to the maiden-20 level of her best finish, in May. She needed
her recent comeback vs. Cal-bred maiden-50s; she can improve second start back.

                        Sixth Race
                        1. Book Smart 2. Colt Fiction 3. Bag's Gold
Only six entered this Cal-bred allowance sprint; a case can be made for most in the field. BOOK SMART moves up in class following a
highly rated N3L win from which he was claimed for $20k. He won by five lengths setting a fast pace, precisely how he won his previous
start. Drawn outside this time, possibly the speed of the field, he can be long gone. COLT FICTION is a five-time winner on DMR dirt
who showed signs of returning to form last out when third in a similar Cal-bred N1X. He moves from post 1 to post 5, and has speed to
keep the top choice in his sights. BAG'S GOLD, Bob Hess Jr.-trained stablemate of the top choice, fits off his runaway N2L claiming win
two back. He misfired his most recent start two months ago, but is "protected" by running back in a statebred allowance from which he
cannot be claimed. The placement signals optimism; 'GOLD ran the fastest race of his career over this track. For what it's worth, he was a
vet scratch Oct. 7. MINISTER SHANE will roll from behind, though his best races have been on turf.

                        Seventh Race
                        1. American Hope 2. El Rey Rey 3. Bandwagon
Maiden 2yos AMERICAN HOPE and EL REY REY, third and fourth with trouble first out, are likely to improve second time out
stretching from a turf sprint to a turf route. AMERICAN HOPE ran particularly well finishing third. He was rated early, saved ground,
rallied inside, steadied in midstretch, and finished with run. Sired by American Pharoah and produced by a multiple Grade 1-winning route
mare, 'HOPE should relish two turns. EL REY REY ran well in the same race. He was blocked and steadied into the lane, angled outside,
finished well and galloped out big. Solid debut, he also benefits by the longer two-turn distance. BANDWAGON earned a big number (77
Beyer) finishing second in a turf mile at Woodbine while five lengths clear of third. The knock is five runners from that race ran back since,
and none hit the board. TRIBAL inched forward second out, a respectable fourth. He seems to be gradually improving.

                        Eighth Race
                        1. Chancery Way 2. Carmen Miranda 3. Glorious Spring
Consistently reliable Northern California-based CHANCERY WAY gets the call in this Cal-bred sprint stakes for fillies and mares,
shortening to a sprint for her first start since finishing third in a turf route in August. The 5-for-10 dual stakes winner worked well for her
comeback according to trainer Jamey Thomas, the filly's numbers are highest in the field, and she is quick enough to establish a forward
position from the inside post. The rail is not a deal-breaker at seven furlongs during the DMR fall meet: the inside post is 12-for-73 (16
percent) since DMR autumn racing began in 2014. All systems go for the Mr. Big filly, who can win with a front-running or pace-pressing
trip. CARMEN MIRANDA returns to dirt after a series of creditable efforts on turf. She also handles dirt, and from her post near the
outside, she figures for a pace-pressing trip lapped on the top choice. GLORIOUS SPRING is back with Cal-bred fillies and mares after
she raced wide and split the field against unrestricted colts and geldings at Fresno. A deep closer likely to be positioned last early, she will
be flying late under Prat, who won this stakes race five of the last six years. ROSE DAWSON benefits from a surface switch to dirt.

                        Ninth Race
                        1. Soulmate 2. Cali Bay 3. Taishan
SOULMATE returns to the DMR turf on which he ran well twice in summer: a close seventh in an entry-level allowance, and third in a
restricted $32k claiming race. Both earned numbers high enough to win this $25k claiming turf mile. SOULMATE was overmatched last
out at SA; he pressed and tired in a N1X won by next-out graded winner Seal Team. This claiming field is easier, SOULMATE also
benefits by the shorter one-mile distance. CALI BAY won over the DMR course in summer, and ran even better last out at SA finishing
third at this level while running faster each successive quarter-mile (:24.60, :24.56, :23.14, and :23.08). Logical contender for a productive
trainer-jockey combo; Phil D'Amato and Prat were 6-for-13 at the 2022 fall meet, and teamed with a host of live mounts opening week of
the 2023 fall meet. TAISHAN finished only a length behind the top choice when they met over this course in summer. NAUVOO is speed,
first off the claim and trying turf for the first time. Longshot theft?
