New York Mets @ San Francisco Giants
          PICK: San Francisco Giants

I normally don't recommend playing favorites of this size, however for a number of different reasons I believe we're getting excellent value on the home side in this situation:

          R. A. Dickey gets the nod for the visitors; in his last outing Dickey gave up four runs in 6 2/3's innings vs. the Braves.

After earning six consecutive wins to start the year, Dickey hasn't picked up a victory since June 23rd.

He was 6-2 in the first half with a 2.77 ERA; keep in mind however that the Mets are 3-6 their last nine on the road overall.

In the other dugout: Tim Lincecum heads to the hill for the home side; Lincecum was 9-4 in the first half with a 3.16 ERA.

In his last outing he dominated the Brewers, allowing just one run with 10 K's over seven frames.

San Francisco is 6-1 its last seven overall.
Bottom line: Lincecum has clearly been the more effective pitcher of late and gets the advantage of throwing at home; you may want to consider a second look at the GIANTS on Thursday night.

                  Robert Ferringo:
                  Take #902 Atlanta (-150) over Milwaukee (7 p.m., Thursday, July 15)
There’s a reason that the Braves are 16 games over .500 and the Brewers are nine games under .500. The reason is that the Braves are legit and the Brewers are just a joke. Atlanta has been the best team in baseball over the last two-plus months and they are an amazing 21-5 at home. The Braves already swept Milwaukee once this year, on the road, and I think that they will win this series as well, taking Game 1 in the process. The Brewers are just 2-6 in their last eight Game 1’s on the road and today they are backing Dave Bush. Bush has been great his last five starts, but four of them have come against some of the weakest hitting teams in the Majors. He’s always been a bad road bet and the Brewers are just 6-13 in his last 19 starts overall (1-4 in his L5 road starts). Atlanta is on a 39-18 run and they are 43-17 at home after a road trip of a week or longer. This price is what it is because Jair Jurrjens still isn’t all the way back from an early season injury. But he’s giv! en up just eight hits and has a 2-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio in his last two starts since coming back to the Majors, and he’s had extra time to rest and rehab. He’ll be ready to roll.

The Cubs are not having the best year, but they've been pretty good at home, and have played well behind Ryan Dempster. Dempster is 7-7 on the year with a 3.61 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. The Phillies start Jamie Moyer. Moyer has been effective on the whole this season, but he's struggled on the road where he has a 5.02 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. There aren't a lot of situations where the Cubs have the edge over the Phillies, but at home with Dempster on the mound, hitting against Moyer is one of them.
