Fair Grounds - Race #6

#5 Star Rock Star	He was well meant at first asking here on Champions Day, but his race was a lot slower than the stakes players went later in the day, so there is a need for some quick improvement if he's going to handle the chalk. That said, I really liked how he looked that day, and some upside isn't impossible.
#4 Smoken Wicked	Probably foolish to pick against this guy even at a short price, as he's got a graded stakes placing on his resume and easily handled his first Louisiana-bred stakes group here a few weeks back. Probably rolls -- and I wouldn't argue at all with anyone working on the assumption he's a free space.
#1 Tdz Hint of Power	He has finished behind a couple of these in recent starts, but he looks like the most committed pace player and has to go from the fence. Can hang around for a piece.
Race Summary	Star Rock Star has a long way to come at second asking to play with Smoken Wicked, but I'm willing to give him a look at what should be a midrange price.

Fair Grounds - Race #7

#4 She's a Swede	Putting her here in hopes this one comes over to the main track and they give her a shot on the footing here. She's got a couple tough customers in her running lines including a Breeders' Cup runner-up. I'm intrigued on any surface they're willing to run her off the break.
#12 Love and Poetry	She took a bit of cash in the Keeneland debut before mostly going mildly, but there is some upside today at second asking with Lasix if this one stays on the grass.
#14 Nana Grace	She probably has some room to build on the Oaklawn run if she gets to go here, and she'll probably find this group to her liking if she does. In the mix.
Race Summary	Taking a guess that She's a Swede is working well enough locally to get a spin on the main track if this comes over, but I think she's worth a look either way you cut it. May Day Ready beat this one by eight lengths when they met, and that one would probably handle this crew by a similar margin without too many deep breaths. Company line play while fresh.

Fair Grounds - Race #8

#7 Secret Faith	Price is going to be extremely short here with another perfect tracking trip in the cards for her -- I know this is a dangerous game to play at maybe 1/5 on the board, but I just don't see how she loses this one if she brings her baseline run.
#1 Mischief Princess	She was no match for the top choice when they met here Opening Weekend, but she should be good for a thrill from the fence if she can avoid taking too much early heat from the next one.
#4 Bet Towinit	Not sure she's the right one today, but she's bred to be a fun one to watch down the road and drilled eight others at five furlongs in the Delta debut. How that will translate to chasing the rail runner's tough pace today on the rise to stakes company? Your guess. And then consider that the rail runner isn't even her biggest problem. Needs a lot to go right.
Race Summary	Secret Faith was almost 10 lengths clear of the show horse last out when she just missed, and I wonder if the ride she got was just a tiny touch too confident that day for a rider who has called every right shot with this one so far. Should close out the day as a big favorite in all pools.

2^nd race [NY, Md Sp Wt, 6 ? F] – (7) Humstinger (A) had the lead in his debut, lost a head bob, and finished far ahead of the rest. (5) Vitalize will cut back from a mile after running fifth when he moved from turf to dirt. (1) Omey Island changes trainers, moves from turf to dirt, leaves the west coast, has shown speed in the past and shows up as a new gelding. (2) Ferris Muler moves from turf to dirt.

5^th race [Moc 50000, 7F] – (6) Gaga’s Hamsome was second last time in his fourth start which was at today’s level. (7) Tale of the Tail was fourth in his debut at 7-2 and drops into this OC maiden. (3) Melancia pressed the pace and finished third at 5-2 when she moved from her first start in a maiden special weight. (8) Yayi Nikolle was steadied at the start of her first race at 7-1 and gets blinkers on.

7^th race [OC 62k/N2X, 7F] – (6) Alternate Reality (B) got jostled at the top of the stretch and gamely battled to get second going a mile. (10) Classic Legacy returned from a short layoff, pressed the pace, and finished third at this level. (11) Squire Creek was third in a strong edition of this kind of second-level allowance while running a career best speed figure. (2) General Banker was a high priced claimed the last three times he ran for a tag. Last time out he missed winning a NY Stallion Series stakes by a neck.

8^th race [Queens County, 1 1/8 mi] – (1) Masmak (A) beat a stakes quality field last month and now has won two races in a row. (7) Law Professor won this race last year along with another stakes and a pair of allowances. He came back from a five month layoff to win an allowance going the nine furlong distance at which he won four times. (4) Phileas Fogg comes back from a September layoff after winning a pair of allowances. (10) Surface to Air won a Keeneland allowance and last time got disqualified from first to fourth in a race at today’s distance.

Best bets: Humstinger (2^nd); Gaga’s Hamsome (5^th). Best value: Alternate Reality (7^th); Masmak (8^th).

J. - He has very good class ratings, averaging 52, and has to be considered in this race. MR CHAL - Morales has one of the top winning percentages in this group of horses with entries running at this distance and surface. Earnings per start in dirt sprint races is strong for this equine.

X J RASCAL (IRE) - This gelding has impressed last two times out posting strong speed figures. With a repeat performance, he'll probably be victorious. Notched a nice turf figure on Dec 3rd at Del Mar. A repeat right here, and this one has a great shot to win. Personally, I wouldn't worry about where he finished in his last race (fifth). Should rebound in this field, with some decent odds. This gelding's recent Equibase speed figures have been as consistent as they get. No reason today will be any different, so I expect to see this animal in the winner's circle photo. CHANNEL WON - This horse could be tough this time, especially since Cohen rode last time around the track and now should be acquainted with this one. Based on the TrackMaster data I've reviewed, this gelding should run well off the layoff. TWIRLING ROSES - You'll be generating money right and left by turning your cash onto this jock/trainer combination.

NAUGHTY DESTINY - Last ran at Aqueduct and finished fifth. Reviewing her handicapping information, I see she was close at the end, within 5 of the winner. Traditional angle - 3rd or 4th start after a vacation generally leads to a big effort. A live one today. She has the uppermost earnings per start. Take a good look at this thoroughbred. When a racer drops at least 5 pounds (like this one is), you must take notice. It may not seem like much, but its possible this could make the difference. MAJULU - Based on this filly's recent efforts, she should be aided by this contest's shorter trip. It looks like Davis had to come to know this filly on December 1st when riding her for the first time. Back aloft again today. I usually like playing sprint horses who are 3-4 races into a come back. Look for this one to go all the way to the finish line at some pretty good odds in today's race. Ran fourth in last race, but not more than 5 from the lead at the wire. BETTER BE SMART - Came home fast in the last race at Aqueduct. That type of move bodes well for her chances in today's race. Has a decent chance to break maiden moving to the dirt in this event. MIA NIPOTINA - Faces state bred foes today after finishing third versus 'open' company on Nov 25th.
