I just want to see Hioki fight a few more times go gauge exactly where he's at in terms of UFC quality competition. I do suspect Guida will dry hump him for three rounds. But Guida, really, is probably a "natural FW" himself. He was never a big lightweight.

I'll also point out that, while I certainly never agreed with the assessment, Guida has never been considered by many to be a good fighter. His striking is average at best. According to Scientist he only "plays" at wrestling.
Hioki was the #2 FW for a while.I heart cockComment

Once Aldo moves up, is Edgar not the de facto champ? The same Edgar who beat BJ, beat Maynard, and beat Bendo (he won the second fight)?I heart cockComment

Well I personally have always thought that Guida is underrated. The dude wins and wins and wins, only losing to the top guys in the division, and people say he sucks. I don't get it. I think it's the WAY he wins that turns people off. But I think he's fun to watch and regardless of how he does it he gets it done.

If we're being fair Edgar shouldn't be wearing it because he shouldn't have gotten the nod against BJ the first time, or a draw against Maynard the second time(first title fight with Maynard). Aldo is real. He may not be facing a bunch of p4p best fighters but he makes good fighters look like shit with sheer speed and brutal power. Nobody has ever done Faber the way Aldo did, and only a handful of fighters ever made Florian look like he didn't belong in the same cage as them. Aside from a few flashes and that fifth round he made Hominick look like a total amateur instead of a former ISKA runner up. Every wrestler to date has been pretty much brutalized before they could do anything with the wrestling. Maybe in 2009 it would be fair to say we don't know if Aldo is for real or not, but right now in 2012 he's more than proved himself as a world class fighter/athlete.2013: +8.24u(increased unit size on 5/19)

It's hard to argue against a 10-7 first round for Maynard in that one. That was arguably the most dominating single round that didn't end in a finish in the history of the sport. There's no evidence to suggest Aldo won't still be the bigger and faster fighter with the kind of striking that just gave Edgar a ton of issues(leg kicks and heavy power) through his last four fights. Aldo losing wouldn't necessarily be a total shock given that it is Edgar, but seeing Edgar get done the way Faber or even Mendes wouldn't be a shock either and it's the more likely scenario.2013: +8.24u(increased unit size on 5/19)

I really don't know that I agree with that. I suspect it may be just more of Edgar being underestimated. There's a long history of that.
Since you bring up the Florian fight, I expected Aldo to be more dominant in that fight. Florian was actually having a lot of success in the opening round busting the wall n' stall on him.I heart cockComment
