"Odds are this fight does come down to the last round. There is no reason to think an exhausted Fitch will have the juice to hold Alves down in the stretch."
What about it?
Alves is going to beat the bejesus out of Fitch.
I don't recall Fitch ever gassing in the 3rd round.
Yeah I think he's overstating it a bit, but go watch the Pierce fight. He fades a little and Pierce turns it up and starts fucking Fitch up.

I don't think he's that bad. Aside from using big words for the sake of using big words and trying too hard to be funny too often, he's kinda grown on me. Certainly he's better than Snowden.
I don't mind his writing style... I just don't think he knows a damn thing about mma. He just attriutes totally random traits to fighters. On any given breakdown, he could be talking about any 2 random fighters in the world.
He will just assign totally random attributes to fighter sometimes and miss major issues in his breakdowns.
I think he is a pretty good writer, but just really horrible at breaking down fights. Like almost so bad that I think he trolling sometimes.
I only question it due to the layoff/brain surgery. Although I'm still not really sure if I believe in the concept of 'ring rust'.
I think you and Rios are overestimating Alves' takedown defense and his KO ability.
Hughes took Alves down and controlled him for a while (even though Alves was humungous and came in 6 pounds over). he stuffed Koscheck a few times (he came in on short notice though). Karo took him down and actually won round 1. He has some decent muy thai, but its not insta death like Anderson Silva or anything. Guys can stand with him. Lytle was actually getting the better of Alves in the striking IMO.
I just think Alves' hype is all based on his win over Koscheck... where Koscheck came in on like 2 week's notice.
I am woefully uninformed in regard to MMA journalism. I know some of their names, and could pick Jordan Breen out in a lineup just because I've seen his picture.

And Fitch's hype is based on what? Who the hell has Fitch ever beat?
I just think Fitch is effective but supremely overrated, and is primed for an asskicking. Hughes took Alves down once, and was stuffed and beaten up the rest of the fight. Koscheck was beaten down for 3 rounds. GSP wasn't able to hold him down at all. I just think Alves is far more dynamic and is going to bring the pain. Fitch doesn't have much in the way of offense.
