This is all I found :
Alves is back less than five months later but he's still dealing with the same issue he does before every fight, a massive weight cut. Rumors said Alves was roughly 20 pounds away from the welterweight limit. Yahoo! Sports' Dave Meltzer spoke with Alves, who said every was okay but he did need Wednesday afternoon to continue cutting weight

To cut weight, I just hit up a sauna with your Mom for a few hours. Usually gets the job done.

                  Re: UFC 117

Sonnen has never been knocked out. The last middleweight Anderson knocked out was James Irvin. Forrest was never known for a solid chin. Anderson Silva's KO power is the most exaggerated myth in mma today. He didn't knock out Damian in five rounds but Nate took about ten seconds to do that.

                    I agree.

I think its bullshit that Alves gets to miss weight by 6-7 pounds and still have the win count on his record and in his title march. I think if they don't make weight and the other guy fights, not only should he get part of his purse, the win should not count.

If you have that much trouble making weight, he has used diuretics in the past too, just man the hell up and fight at MW.

That said, 15 pounds 2 days out is not that bad. That's probably average. He'll make it. That is the problem with steroids, you just cant continue to get bigger and bigger and stay in the same weight class (yeah, I am dragging this out again).

^^^ I actually dislike the whole practice. I think 170 pounders should utilize proper nutrition and training methods to stay right at 170 lbs. Maybe there could be a 3 or even 5 pound allowance for cutting, but I just don't buy into the whole "weight cutting's a skill and if you can do it you should able to" argument. I think that people should just fight at their own real weight.

This way competitions would be genuinely fair in regard to physical size and we wouldn't be getting Gleison Tibau vs Caol Uno and shit like that.

                          ^ indeed he did.

SPX, in HS wrestling in my State, they measure your body fat and weigh you at the beginning of the season. You are not allowed to lose more than 1.5% of your body weight per week. It is for health, because these dubmass kids die cutting too much weight. But it has the added effect of not having massive weight cuts the day before. Of course in wrestling, you are competing usually multiple times per week, so weight usually stays down. These mma fighters will go 6 months between fights. There is just no feasible way to monitor it.

Eh... James Irvin is not a Middleweight, he had so much trouble making 185lbs it was crazy. The last Middleweight Anderson knocked out was Rich Franklin. Forrest was never known for having a solid chin? I'm not even going to point out all the wars he's been in. Anderson does indeed have tons of KO power seeing as he owns half of Rich Franklins total KO/TKO losses himself. He didn't knock Demian Maia out because for the first three rounds Maia refused to engage him striking and by the time he DID want to engage Anderson had it wrapped up already. Had Anderson wanted to end the fight in the first he very well could have and everyone knows it.
