yeah I remember Fitch getting rocked over and over by strikes, it was Alves I could have sworn spent more time on his back than anywhere else and it's sort of true but the point remains that it was almost half the fight that GSP stood with Alves. That punch that dropped Alves could be looked at one of two ways though. Thiago was in the middle of throwing a leg kick when he got hit and fell on his ass.

The only way to look at it is as a legit knockdown. Is it as devastating as if he'd had both feet planted, like the Fitch knockdowns? No, but it is what it is. He was knocked down from a punch in the face.

Gsp has pretty legit standup. He started in Kyoshin Karate, I don't know if I spelled that right. I am too lazy to google it. Also his opponents are always worried about the takedown so it makes it easier for him to land strikes. Due to the fact they don't know if a punch, kick or takedown attempt is coming. I am pretty sure that is how he was able to outstrike Thiago Alves.

Yeah, it's a pretty brilliant strategy. He stands outside with his long monkey arms and punches you in the face and kicks you in the leg until you try to come do something about it, then he ducks under lightning fast and slams you on your head. He then passes your mediocre guard at will and beats you up until you manage to get up. Rinse and repeat until you are so demoralized you're hesitant to try anything and just want to flee the arena.

I had like 5u on Miller to win a decision. I was going to take the winning and put them on GSP to win a U-D. God Damn. I almost went straight up at the last minute because it was +140 but then I got greedy.
