Here, quick find from an about.com article:

Weight lifting definitely burns calories; in fact, it often burns more calories per minute than performing endurance exercise. The problem is that most people fatigue quickly when lifting weights, and therefore cannot perform the exercise as long as they can walk, bike or use an elliptical machine. The end result is that the total calories burned per exercise session tends to be higher for those who do endurance exercise first, simply because the can exercise longer.

Exactly. People don't lift weights for 30 minutes straight. A set of lifting weights doesn't even take a minute, and it's not that intense on the heart rate. Cardio > lifting weights for burning calories. I wish it wasn't true, I'd be cut like diamonds if lifting weights > cardio for burning calories/fat loss

I think the forum is full of bro science, but the articles are usually pretty good.

Fuck cardio. I haven't done anything resembling regular cardio since I was in the Army 12 years go, unless you count judo class.

Water weight could make up the difference in the studies. Some people retain water more, pee less, sweat less, etc. When you are talking about 400 pounds, 1 or 2 pounds isn't anything.

That said, I think it is slightly more complicated that calories in - calories out. If you eat too much sugar, you insulin levels can spike. If your insulin is too high (diabetic), your body doesn't use teh calories right, and you wont lose weight,

"It is impossible to have high levels of insulin in your system while burning fat at the same time. Think about that. If you eat a meal that has too high of a Glycemic Index, your blood sugar will spike, causing a large release in insulin. During this period of time your body cannot use fat for fuel (even if you are operating under a calorie deficit and even if you workout like crazy). You can get everything else right and not make good progress if you allow your insulin levels to get out of whack." http://fitnessblackbook.com/dieting_...e-weight-gain/

I know this to be true because I have several diabetic friends...

I don't even read the forums/articles for advice or anything like that because I already know everything.

That's true, but if you have a 400 pound person eating 1600 cals a day in lean meats and veggies and exercising for several hours, then you expect a loss of several pounds.

A lot of those pounds would =water and glycogen so the weight would be able to be put back on real quick if they stopped

yeah, I am just saying... I didn't see the study or anything. A lot of it would depend on what time of day they weighed the person, whether they monitored water intake, etc. I know, for me sometimes I will work out a lot and then chug like half a gallon of water and end up temporarily weighing more than that I did the day before. Over the course of a week, that would be hard to do, I agree. But then again, how hard can you work out when you are 400 pounds?

                          Blow me.

I'll never run, but I might get into cycling. Swimming is okay too, but I don't have access to a pool.

I actually like cardio. I hate lifting. I don't mind lifting really light, I have been doing like a single barbell workout occasionally (I will do a superset of several exercisies using the same 70 pound barbell)... I like that ok. I don't like lifting heavy at all.
