You should watch that documentary Fat Face. This dude had a very simply system--2,000 cals a day, 100 grams of carbs or less, no exercise. And he lost weight, presumably just because of the carb reduction.

Also, why brown rice? I only eat it when I am having some brown rice sushi- maybe I should have that for breakfast. I am hungry for goodness in the morning though, I am fine throughout the rest of the day.
Quinoa and chicken would give you a lot more bang (and protein) for your effort.2012: +19.33

I would think it would be because of the calorie reduction just as much or more. I am really not totally sold on the whole carbs are bad thing. I lost 60 pounds and I ate a shit load of carbs the whole time. It was all "good" stuff though, fruits mostly. But I used to eat oatmeal or cereal almost every morning, and it had a lot of carbs and sugar.2012: +19.33

I can only eat oatmeal, eggs, or some pretty gross cereals on that list. I don't like to use up my calories on milk though, so cereal is pretty much out since I don't like it that much anyway. Oatmeal is gross without sugar. I can only do so many eggs and I don't cook in the morning. I did some shakes for a while, but I got tired of it.2012: +19.33

Hot sauce. The chicken is seasoned and marinated in some sauce, so it's pretty good.
No, I am trying to lean out a bit right now. umm to lose 25 lbs...do more, eat less, eat healthy. Pretty simple I guess, I usually tell people (that aren't strength athletes or anything like that) just to eat 5-6x a day, smaller meals, have protein in each meal, healthy carbs in the 1st and 2nd meal (oatmeal, brown rice, sweet potato, fruits, etc). Then after those 2 meals just have protein with veggies and a healthy fat source (tablespoon of natural peanut butter, small amount of nuts, tsp of extra virgin olive oil, etc), or just some eggs which is both good fat and protein. I pretty much told one guy that exact same thing and he dropped 25 lbs by just doing that and running a mile each morning.
edit: I told my Mom the above (roughly...she just eats some carbs in the morning, usually oats) with a protein source, and the rest of the day she has protein in her meals with vegetables and maybe some healthy fats. She has lost over 100 lbs since November 2009. She has actually been at the point where she is just maintaining on the same diet now for a long time because she doesn't have anymore weight to lose
I have ground beef and rice for breakfast sometimes too...I don't eat that stuff for breakfast. If I eat eggs it is later in the day because I never have time to make eggs in the AM.Last edited by poopoo333; 09-27-2011, 01:08 PM.Comment

Did you watch it? How do you know he reduced his calories? 2,000 is a decent amount of calories.
I wouldn't say they're "bad" for you, but there's no real question at this point that they play a significant factor in getting fat.I am really not totally sold on the whole carbs are bad thing. I lost 60 pounds and I ate a shit load of carbs the whole time. It was all "good" stuff though, fruits mostly. 2000 calories is not a decent amount of calories. It's the standard for the average person according to the FDA or whoever makes those nutriton labels.
Carbs don't get you fat. Carbs only get you fat if you eat too many sugars and just sit around all day and not do anything. It's all about timing imo..your insulin release has a lot to do with getting fat. But then again, there are people that can eat 4000+ calories daily from mcdonalds and remain normal lookingComment

When I don't TRY to eat a lot, I don't typically hit 2,000 cals a day, or I hit right around there. When I'm trying to gain, I try to hit 3,000 cals and that's extremely difficult and I have to eat to the point of being uncomfortable.I heart cockComment

3000 extremely difficult? That's only 500 calories a meal if you eat 6 meals a day. That's pretty damn easy imo...you just have to eat the right foodsComment

I think that some carbs are higher in calorie content for the amount of food you are getting. It is the sugar and no-fiber combo...
I have heard a pretty good rule of thumb, if you are eating carbs, it needs to have fiber also- fruit, oats, brown rice...
Fruits have a lot of sugar and carbs. I challenge anyone to get fat eating nothing but oatmeal beans and fruit. Actually, I will go as far as to guarantee you that the guy eating oatmeal, beans and fruit will be leaner and healthier than bacon cheese and steak for breakfast guy.
Refined sugar, that's the enemy. But even then, I am pretty sure if I only ate Fudge Rounds and nothing else I could still stay pretty slim if I kept my calorie total down. I migyt die of a massive stroke or heart attack, but I don't think you would get fat.Last edited by MMA_scientist; 09-27-2011, 01:24 PM.2012: +19.33

That's difficult. If I just eat naturally, then I usually don't get hungry again for 5 or so hours after I last ate. I also can't eat right after I wake up.
So usually I eat once around 11:00 to 12:00, then again around 5:00 or 6:00, then again around midnight.I heart cockComment

I could easily eat 7000 calories per day no problem. 2000 calories, I could eat for breakfast, and not bat an eye. Hell, one McDonald's value meal comes in near 2000 calories. If i wanted to, I could eat 5 or 6 of those in a day and wouldn't feel over stuffed. Different people have different metabolisms... I can eat a lot. I am 6' tall and 200 pounds, 2000 calories for me is not much.2012: +19.33
