2011 Off topic thread(basketball,movies,etc whatever)
No that guy was there... but the kid broke the Jr. World record, I can't remember his name... he was definitely 17 though. He had a suit on. He ended up getting second overall, but his squat was amazing. I think he only weighed like 190#.
Anyway, it was pretty cool. I went to this powerlifting gym because my buddy wanted to buy some magid Elieko plates and some kind of crazy ass bar. What I gleaned though, you need some powerlifting shoes. I recall your vids you were wearing Chucks... that shit doesn't cut it at the Arnolds. You need to get some of those shoes with the heel.
That is fucking nuts, he is going to be awesome in like 5 years if he doesn't get injured
That's him. He actually failed his second attempt... then he stalled out his 3rd attempts and sort of leaned to the side like he was going to lose it, then just gutted it out. It was incredible.
It depends on the style of your squats. For me, I squat with a wider stance, so Chucks are better for that. The shoes with the heel are called olympic weightlifting shoes, a lot of squatters use them because they squat a little narrow. I'll probably never have those shoes, they wouldn't work for me.

Just saying, every single lifter had them on, male and female, all weights. Magic shoes are the gi of powerlifting.
Man, the way you put it, it seems like the Arnold was a great event for the powerlifting. I figured it would be a little boring, that organization is notorious for quiet, boring meets. But then again, they aren't all at a huge sports festival. I would be able to compete at that meet next year easily, but then I would have to screw all my plans up and compete at one of that organization's meets and get a qualifying total. sooo I will probably just go hang out next year

Yeah, it was cool. The power lifting is in a little cove right across from the main expo. There were at least 1000 people watching, probably more. They had music going, and a play by play guy. "Poopoo is from Florida, he is going for it folks... lets get behind him. Stand up Poopoo, stand up!" Then they had a stage, with a curtain to a backstage area, so they called the names and the lifter came bursting out from the curtain and sallied up to the bar. The squat was by far teh best part... because you have to wait for the judges to flip thier lights. Each guy had his own "facts" sheet on the big screen, with and aciton shot, age weight and some personal info. The crowd got into it, they would get pretty loud for a few of the favorites.
Sounds fun. When I am 21 (2012), I plan on going to the Olympia expo in Las Vegas in September (I think September). I am thinking about competing at that competition, then gambling and drinking beer all night afterwards while going to strip clubs.
