Well, the university president is having to step down, too. As I said, I'm really shocked about this. He was treated like a god around central PA. It's like if the Pope was forced out of the Catholic church. I would have thought JoePa could have disemboweled a hobo on his front lawn in front of a crowd and gotten away with it, but I guess when a scandal involves kids and sex, the net catches everyone it can.

I didn't mention this part of the story, but when that grad student I knew got busted for child porn, they almost jailed his dissertation adviser too. What happened was that the police came to his office asking about the student and the professor told them he wasn't in. Later that day when the student showed up, the professor said, "Oh, the cops were just here looking for you." The student figured what was up and then rushed home and deleted a bunch of data from his computer before the police managed to catch him.

Because of that, they were going to charge the adviser (I guess for obstruction of justice). Fortunately, he ended up not getting charged, and he was able to keep his job, but he had to step down from his committee posts. Even then, there were protests against the university nationwide by bloggers and such because they didn't fire him. Crazy shit.

I think it's pretty clear he did it. It's less clear how much other people knew and when, but it does look like people were covering it up.
