yeah, I remember that Mir interview. I have actually rolled with Maia, which is one reason I have so much faith in his ground game. I have rolled with other high level guys like Braulio and Roger as well, but Maia is a fuckin brute. I mean, they all smoked me with ease and without even trying... and I would say in pure jj terms, Braulio and Roger are well ahead of Maia... but Maia is strong like gorilla. His game is just more MMAish than some of the other guys. I know for a fact he will not get ground and pounded, he might be able to stalemate there, but Munoz is not going to beat him there.

That said, Munoz is also a stud, so we will see. Personally, I think Munoz has to tag him on his feet if he wants to win this fight. I am favoring Maia more and more as I think about it. It is close on the feet, and Maia could win it there too. Add in the fact that Munoz has to worry about the takedown while Maia doesn't, and he may have an edge standing. Maia could also win by takedowns or from bottom.

I agree, Maia should be favored.

I am considering a parlay of Omigawa, Poirier, K Sos, Weidman, and Florian. Get through the prelims and hedge with Nunes dec.

I could see K-sos losing. He is not that great.

My fear with Maia is the way the judges have scored for the guy on top, especially the last couple fights.

Igor could rock K Sos, like Bonnar did. But look how easy Bonnar handled him on the ground, K Sos can do the same. On the feet its closer, but I think K Sos will beat him there too. I think he is the best bet on the card, or Weidman, especially those who got the opening line.

Munoz won't be able to hold Maia down, IMO. The difference between a world class guy like Maia and a pretty good guy like Torres is pretty vast. Munoz couldn't even hold Grove down very well... I am not saying Maia will win, because I do think Munoz has a good chance. I am just saying, Munoz is not going to win this on the mat. That said, if you have never seen Maia vs. Okami in ADCC, you should watch that. Maia won, but Okami stayed on top the entire time and survived. Had it been MMA, Okami probably would have won (but then again, Maia probably would not have stayed on bottom the whole time then either).

man how the hell o you score jiu jistu competitions. From what i saw, they were in a neutral position most of the time. Maia had the one legit sub attempt that he almost finished, but okami passed guard a couple times and almost took his back.

I don't know, maybe a dec or knockout. He can hit pretty hard and his wrestling is mildly decent. K-sos isn't really amazing at wrestling or striking, so why not?
