Matt Mitrione seems like one of the coolest guys in the ufc imo.

I talked to Mitrione at the Arnolds. He actually is a really nice guy. He sort of has rocks in his head, but he was very approachable and just sat there and shot the shit with me for a long time.

Aoki is a great example. I just cannot root for the guy. Most of the time it is stuff I actually hear come out of the mouths of fighters or their actual actions that make me a fan or non-fan. Sonnen is another example, I don't care if he is trolling or mildly funny or not, guy is a scumbag and therefore I am non-fan. Guys like Schaub, I don't genuinely dislike, he just rubs me the wrong way. He may be a fantastic human being, but his personality and face just annoy me.

Well I think you have to take everything into account. It sounds like you have formed an opinion of some sort of Couture and Schaub based upon the info that you have available to you. That's probably all we can do, unless we get a chance to actually talk to these guys in person.

So take Schaub. . . Okay, he's apparently trying to help poor kids in the ghettos of Brazil. That's pretty cool. So that would make me more interested in seeing him succeed.

I was just throwing it out there because he seems to take alot of heat. I personally do not know if he is a good guy or not. But like scientist said. I have heard the same things about Hughes...and that is why I would never give the guy grief. Because i do not know if he is a prick or not.

Now Aoki on the other hand has done things in the ring that have made me a non fan. I still respect him for his skills, but in his case, I have seen with my own eyes his character.

There is definitely a lot of that. I don't like Randy though, seems like a prick to me. I have first hand experience with a lot of these guys, and there is a definite difference between the persona and the actual person. For example, Maia seems like such a sweet and gentle man, but he is actually kind of a prick and not gentle at all. Hughes, on the other hand, is a super nice guy, but everyone hates him.

I can only tell you what I have done in the past on a big loss. Mild depression for a day or two. Then I say Fuck it, and take my daughter somewhere nice and spend a little money.

What sucks with a big loss, is that you could pull in 40K in 3 months, then lose a 10K bet and it is as if you never won that 40K. the sting is still substantial.

I think it's natural to want guys that you identify with, or that seem cool, to succeed.

Likewise, guys it's natural to want guys who are obviously dickheads to fail.

MMA (and sports in general, I think, especially sports when it's about one vs one instead of teams) really is like real-life pro-wrestling. There are storylines and characters, only in MMA the storylines and characters are (mostly) real.

I can't get too interested in a fight unless I have some sort of rooting interest. Most of the time it is based on the style of the fighter, but sometimes it is just because I like the personality or dislike the personality of one of the fighters. I am not like a superfan or anything, I don't get too upset, but I just can't get too interested unless I have some rooting interest. I understand just being a fan of the sport, but for me, it is not nearly as fun unless I have some hope as to the outcome.
