He wouldnt get in that position against maia. Maia knows how to avoid them just like the guy palhares lost to in ADCC. and in the split second that omigawa thought about tapping, is when he actually tried to tap.

I think it would probably end up like Hughes vs. Renzo. A "bad kickboxing" match between two great grapplers.

The guy Palhares lost to in ADCC didn't have to worry about being punched in the face by that tard.

Re: the tap. After seeing that gif, yeah, I think he tapped, but the ref didn't see it and didn't call it. Immediately after he thought better of it and continued to fight.

Re: Palhares. Yeah, dudes a beast, and a fight with Maia would be interesting. I'd also like to see a rematch with Marquardt.

I agree. Palhares could win that though.

Doesn't look like a tap to me.

It's irrelevant anyway. The ref didn't see it and Alcantara didn't stop at all, so who gives a fuck?

Rumble's response to people mocking his failure to make weight (from BE):

I'm already laughing at what ppl are saying. Yeah it was for medical reason and I did what the UFC Dr Told me to do. Believe it or don't I give a f**k cuz the ppl close to me were freaking out but I'm still alive and something like this has never happen before. Say what you want I'm still gonna do my thang. You try not having feeling in your legs and can't move then and see how you look at life after that

Sounds like he was starting to go numb in the legs due to his extreme weight-cutting and the doctors told him to stop and rehydrate.

Which means he started cutting too late and the cut was getting dangerous in the timeframe he was attempting to perform it. It's still unprofessional as fuck. Why didn't he have a test cut to see what kind of timeframe was good for him to cut like this? Why did he balloon back up so big when he just fought three months ago?

This reminds me of bas rutten talking about guys being insecure and taking steroids. AJ wants to be the biggest guy in the division. He goes to extreme lengths to maintain that size advantage.

I have no doubt that he was in danger. Tha's what happens when you wait until the day before the fight and you are 40 pounds over...

Re Palhares vs. Maia: I don't think there is much of a skill gap between them. Maia is only slightly better if he is better at all. He is more position oriented, but Palhares goes for the finish. It would probably be really close on the ground. I think the standup would be close as well. I hope they don't make the fight. I badly want Palhares vs. Sonnen.

You fight Palhares, you get injured. That's all there is to it. I wouldn't agree to fight him, he is a total dick.

I think the main difference is stamina. If Maia could stalemate Palhares long enough Palhares would probably get tired, especially if he ended up on the bottom. These guys are polar opposites in pretty much every area. Maia is all about positioning and technical proficiency before power while Palhares could give a fuck how it looks as long as it gets the job done.
