          "Submission: a fighter may admit defeat during a match by:
          a tap on the opponent's body;
          a tap on the mat or floor;
          verbal announcement."

          From the unified rules. A single tap on your own body doesn't constitute submission.

              Why would he immediately go to work transitioning over Alcantara's back if he was tapping? If the fight was over to him why would he look to jump over like that?

                hmmm, instinct. He felt the pain and immeadiately tapped. Then tried to fight through it. A tap is a tap. doesnt matter where it occurs. Im sure he wasn't thinking about where he was tapping.

                  According to the rules it does in fact matter where a "tap" occurs.

                    So if a ref see's a fighter tapping furiously on his own body, he can't stop the fight?

                        Alright, regardless of the rules. You can at least admit he tried to tap.

                          Rhousimar palhares, is there anyone he can't heel hook? He is a danger to any fighter. I wonder who he will fight next. Is like to see him against Debian Maia. I don't think he could heel hook him but he can prob out strike him via power strikes and stop Maia from implementing his ground game.

                            Oh he definitely was thinking about it, there's no denying he wasn't at least a split second where he was like "that's it" but I think once that moment of panic wore off he was like "it's time to go to work".

                              Palhares might win a fight with Maia based solely on strength to make up for the skill gap on the ground. How do you counter someone that strong and explosive with the heelhook once he has it? You only have about a second and a half before he's ripping your ligaments apart once he has the leg in position. Maia has better technical striking but Palhares might just shoot on him and work from there.

                                Well I was thinking palhares brute strength would allow him to beat Maia on the feat. He is a beast. If he connects on anyone he can drop them. He can also defend Maia's subs. Thats why I think he could beat him. It would be an interesting fight to watch.
