Game: Denver at Buffalo (Saturday 12/24 1:00 PM Eastern)
        Pick: Buffalo +3 (-120)

The Denver Broncos have been the talk of the NFL in the second half of the season, and Tim Tebow is everywhere you look. The problem is that perception doesn't equal reality. Denver has been on a nice run since Tebow took over but the reality is they have been fairly lucky. During the great run that Tebow had, the Broncos have enjoyed a 2-to-1 turnover advantage. They looked really bad for 90% of some of those games but came away with a win. In reality, the Broncos with Tebow are a mediocre team yet the impression is they are better than that. That spells value fading them. The Broncos defense got a lift from the excitement created by Tebow and winning games and stepped up in a few games, but has become again what it was earlier in the season - not so good. Denver allowed a season's second best 32 points to 2-10 Minnesota three weeks ago, stopped the Bears' non-existent offense then were torched for 41 vs. New England a season high - even for the Pats. They also allowed a season high 49 points to Green Bay and a season second best to Detroit who hit them for 45. Tebow has been a feel-good story, but the fact remains that the Broncos have scored 18 or fewer points in six of their last nine games and "feel good" doesn't cover spreads in the NFL long term. Buffalo has lost seven straight games, but they remain a threat at home where they are 4-3 and have outscored their opponents here. Denver is just 15-35-1 in their last 51 ATS as a favorite, and the Bills come in having covered four of their last five vs. the Broncos. Play contrarian - Play Buffalo.

                  Hawaii

Nevada +6 vs. So. Miss (62): Usually Hawaii hosts this one, but not so this year. I wanted the Wolf Pack who made this trip in the past, but they looked to have packed it in. Nevada was 0-6 SU and ATS, including a season ending 41-20 loss against Idaho as a 20 point favorite. The Golden Eagles were 10-2 SU but did not cover in their last three. One of those was to hapless UAB. Again, we’re looking total. Have a happy Christmas Eve. OVER.

I will be betting a lot of totals on Christmas Eve as the players want to get these games done so they can get in some late shopping.

                    Dennis Ball @ Gaming Today

                    SATURDAY

Raiders +1 at Chiefs: Romeo Crennel pleading his case to be head coach of the Chiefs. Upsetting the Packers won’t hurt. KC usually plays inspired football at home and gave the same defensive performance against the visiting Steelers a couple weeks ago. Raiders have dropped three straight and are far and away the more undisciplined team. CHIEFS.

Broncos -3 at Bills: Buffalo won four of their first five and were the talk of the NFL. Now they’re discussing a current seven-game losing streak. Denver finally met a team that could pressure their defense for four quarters. Tebow Time may still be in effect, especially on Christmas Eve. BRONCOS.

Jags +8½ at Titans: Matt Hasselbeck and Chris Johnson were both disappointing in allowing the Colts their first win. Johnson has been a disaster in all but a couple games. The Titans don’t win that often and when they do it’s usually not by 8. JAGS.

Cards +4 at Bengals: Cards have surprised more than a few by winning their last four. Only one of those wins was by more than 4 points and it took a TD in OT against the Cowboys. Cincy due for one home blowout before the season ends. BENGALS.

Dolphins +10½ at Patriots: Pats are now 11-3 on a six-game roll. The offense is scary good. But their defense only scares Bill Belichick and their backers trying to cash tickets. Fish have won five of seven games and playing tough on the road for a couple months. DOLPHINS.

Browns +14½ at Ravens: The Browns are so bad it’s hard to find bettors who will bet, or even admit to betting on them. Cleveland has lost four consecutive games, covered three. The Browns battle on defense and that might be enough to cover. BROWNS.

Giants +2½ at Jets: The Enigma Bowl. It’s a battle of two teams that have been up and down all season. I’m going to side with the home team in a close call with a small number to cover. JETS.

Vikings +6 at Skins: The Vikings haven’t won a game since Week 8. They’re "unbettable" if I can invent a new word. SKINS.

Bucs +6 at Panthers: There’s a ship wreck going on in Tampa Bay. The Bucs have lost eight straight and seven of those have been by more than 6. Cam Newton and company have won three of four and covered all three point spreads by a minimum of 8! PANTHERS.

Rams (NL) at Steelers: We figure 14 or 14½. Unsure of status on Big Ben or Sam Bradford. But I feel compelled to give an opinion on every game so I’m taking what I think should be a boat-full of points. RAMS.

Chargers +2½ at Lions: Detroit is definitely alive for the playoffs so you’re going to get an all out effort for the home town folks in last home game. The Chargers are alive and well for the money games too. Matt Stafford’s last minute 98-yard drive for a winning TD should provide enough mojo to get the job done. LIONS.

49ers -3 at Seahawks: Tough to bet against a 3-point dawg that’s playing their last home game and won three games in a row. The defense has been stifling and Tarvaris Jackson has been throwing the ball well enough to win. It also doesn’t hurt to unleash the beast, Marshawn Lynch, who has scored a TD in 10 straight games! SEAHAWKS.

Eagles +3 at Cowboys: Michael Vick is back and this has been a very different Eagles team the last two weeks. Dallas looked great at Tampa Bay but lost two heartbreakers prior to that. I will hope like heck that Rob Ryan does a better job of game planning than he did against the Giants. COWBOYS.

Torn between pro football's Giants-Jets December 20, 2011 3:00 AM by Mark Mayer

                      Saturday

Nevada +5½ vs. Southern Miss: Can’t get over the fact Nevada lost to Idaho. Southern Miss had a 10-win season, including a 21-point upset victory over previously unbeaten Houston. The Golden Eagles also play better competition. SO. MISS.

                      -----------------------------------------------------------------

                      NFL

Dolphins +9½ at Patriots: With all the buildup around Tebow last week and clinching the AFC East title, it would be hard not to expect the Patriots to rest a few players and prepare for the playoffs. That’s fine with me, especially when the Dolphins are covering regularly and Reggie Bush is playing his very best ball. DOLPHINS.

Bucs +7 at Panthers: Normally, I would never consider laying this much wood with Carolina, but Cam Newton is still motivated and the Bucs clearly are not. The defense has abandoned ship. Plus, RB DeAngelo Williams is finally back on form. PANTHERS.

49ers -2 at Seahawks: Really tough spot for San Francisco off a big Monday nighter with Steelers. Teams that play Pittsburgh the previous week often lose the next game. Seattle is rising behind Marshawn Lynch and still has a shot at a wild card. SEAHAWKS.

Browns +13½ at Ravens: I would like to hear the Ray Lewis speech this week. He was as much to blame as anyone for that awful display last week at San Diego. Look for a big rebound at home against a Browns bunch Baltimore already whipped once. RAVENS.

Eagles +2½ at Cowboys: Michael Vick is back, the Eagles still have a pulse and the Cowboys, well who knows? I still think Philly rises and falls with DeSean Jackson’s mood. Right now it’s good. We’ll take the points and look for a wild Week 17. EAGLES.

Giants +3 at Jets (46): You tell me which New York team shows up? Giants are better on the road than home, and actually benefit from being the "road" team in their home stadium. The Jets were pathetic last week in Philly. The QB matchup between Eli and "Sanchise" favors Manning. Tom Coughlin’s job is on the line. G-men like him. GIANTS.
