Miami is not likely the same performer now in a favored role and the Rams may continue to surprise with Jeff Fisher leading a new attitude and great special teams helping the cause. While Miami has been impressive on defense particularly against the run they have failed twice in tight games and the offense has battled turnovers. Miami is still just 2-3 despite good numbers while the Rams are a team that is finding ways to win even without big advantages. St. Louis did lose both road games this season but the defense held excellent offensive teams in relative check. St. Louis will likely focus on the passing attack in this match-up and despite the loss of Danny Amendola this is a team that can move the ball through the air behind Sam Bradford. Ryan Tannehill has been impressive and he has a bright future but the Dolphins have historically struggled at home and this will be a new role for this team, playing as a favorite for the first time all season coming off a big win last week. The Rams are well coached and with the extra time to prepare St. Louis should find some edges in this game. The Rams have covered in four of five games this season Miami is also battling injuries on defense going against a Rams team that is still being undervalued.

The Lions have endured a rough 1-3 start with sloppy play and the schedule will be very tough coming off the bye week with three excellent defensive teams in a row. Philadelphia fell to 3-2 last week in another close game and turnovers and mistakes continue to haunt this team. Philadelphia has wins over two quality teams at home this season but both wins came by very slim margins. The Lions have been able to post big numbers on offense but the defense has been highly vulnerable. Whichever turnover prone team commits fewer mistakes should win this game and while Detroit looks like a team in line for a big fall back season, the Eagles are a hard team to lay points with given the potential for turnovers. This is a make-or-break game for the Lions coming off three straight losses and despite the struggles Detroit has out-gained three of four foes by more than 100 yards and no loss came by more than eight points as the Lions had chances to win or tie late in every game. Philadelphia has three wins by a combined total of four points this season and while the Eagles have a very good defense the unit gets overworked with the tough positions the offense can leave them in. Philadelphia is just 7-13 ATS in the last 20 games as a favorite and Detroit has been the more productive team against a schedule that now looks much tougher than when the season started.

The Ravens survived in a difficult spot last week but this won’t be an easy game with a huge AFC clash with Houston next week. Baltimore is 3-0 at home this season but they have failed ATS in the last two. Dallas has had two weeks to recover from an ugly Monday night performance and the offense should have some success in this match-up as the Baltimore defense has been very mediocre, allowing 380 yards per game. Dallas is one of the best defensive teams in the league statistically but the numbers are misleading as they have not faced offensive juggernauts since the opening week with Seattle and Tampa Bay as two of the worst offensive teams in the league. Chicago could have had bigger numbers against Dallas but they were able to play with short field due to turnovers. The Cowboys continue to make big mistakes on offense which has set-up a lot of scoring but the offense will be in high gear off the bye week and Baltimore’s defense is greatly overrated. This should be a higher scoring game and this total has been kept in check with the reputations of these teams. Both teams are going to have to pass to have success and that should also help to elevate scoring in this match-up. Baltimore’s low scoring effort last week was a bit misleading as the Chiefs rushed the ball 51 times to keep the ball away from the Ravens and the teams combined to go 0-6 in scoring touchdowns in red zone opportunities. Baltimore has scored 33 points per game at home this season and this will be a shootout.

PLAY ON: Cleveland +2.5 over Cincinnati, Sunday at 1:00 PM EST

Not so sure the Bengals should even be favored in this one. This line opened Cincy -3 and despite the majority of bettors on Bengals, the line has dropped to +2.5, +2, and even +1 at a few spots. These two met just a few weeks ago with Cincinnati winning in a close one at home 34-27. Despite the win, Cincinnati was outgained by 64 yards in that game including by 50 on the ground. Cleveland rolled up 439 yards on 7.3 yards per play in that game. RB Trent Richardson ripped up 109 yards on the ground against a Cincy defense that has been very suspect this season. Cleveland is happy to be home after a brutal 2-game road stretch against Baltimore & NY Giants. They lost both but were competitive. They dropped a 7 point game to the Ravens and then lost @ New York last week despite opening up a 14-0 lead to start the game. Now they face a Cincinnati team they nearly beat on the road a few weeks ago and a team that has been a big time money burner in this role. The Bengals are just 3-13 ATS the last 16 times they’ve been a favorite. On top of that, the favorite is just 1-9 ATS in this AFC North series. Cleveland is winless and they know this is one of the spots they can pick up a win so expect a huge effort. Winless teams in week 6 or later have been a money maker going 97-59 ATS over the last 20 years. Take Cleveland to win outright at home on Sunday.

OVER 46 San Francisco vs. NY Giants – 3:25 PM CST

San Francisco has been fantastic offensively this season. The Niners feature a very balanced attack of 196 rush yards per game (1st in the NFL) and 205 pass yards per game. They are also averaging 29.8 points per game this season. Last week against Buffalo the Niners became the first team in NFL history to rush and pass for over 300 yards in the same game. QB Alex Smith has become much more than just a game-managing quarterback. He’s completing 69% of his passes with eight touchdowns and just one interception this season. He has a bevy of receiving weapons at his disposal and he’s enjoying a career year because of it. They shouldn’t have much difficulty moving the ball here against the G-Men and this 21st ranked defense in the league. Defensively the Niners have allowed just one field goal over the past two weeks, but that was against two offensively inept squads: NY Jets and Buffalo. NY Giants feature a much more polished offense. The Giants rank second in total offense and 3rd in scoring offense. And they are a great road team. They are averaging 26.5 points per game in two road games this season and they were 5-3 on the road last season and averaged 26 points per game. These two met twice in San Francisco a year ago, once in the regular season and once in the NFC Championship. They combined for 47 points in the regular season matchup and 37 points in the NFC Championship. With the exception of SF rushing for 150 yards in the playoff meeting (had a couple of big gainers); neither team had much success running the football against the other. Both have been strong against the run this season so we expect a pass-happy contest between Alex Smith and Eli Manning. (**QB Alex Smith is listed as probable.) All signs point to a high-scoring affair between two of the top teams in the NFC. Take the OVER.

NY Jets (-3) over Indianapolis, Sunday at 1:00 PM EST

If you were to bet this game before the season began, you would have had to lay over a TD with the Jets. Now we’re getting them at just over a field goal. The perception of the Jets has obviously fallen since the start of the season due to their 2-3 record. However, let’s keep in mind their losses have come at the hands of Pittsburgh, San Francisco, and Houston, all playoff and potential Super Bowl type teams. The main problem with New York has been their struggles on offense. Again, those three teams we mentioned above all are ranked in the top 6 in the NFL in total defense so their struggles aren’t overly surprising. We feel they’ll have much better success on Sunday against a Colt defense that ranks near the bottom of the league in most key categories. This is an absolute must win for the Jets at home. This is their third straight home game and they lost their first two at the hands of San Fran & Houston, possibly the two best teams in the NFL. After this they play 3 of their next 4 games on the road including a trip to New England next week. We look for Indy to be emotionally drained for this one. They learned leading up to last week their coach Chuck Pagano was diagnosed with lukemia. They dedicated last week’s game to him and what a game it was. Indy trailed Green Bay 21-3 at half but rallied for a win on a late TD drive led by rookie QB Andrew Luck. After that huge comeback win, it’s going to be tough for them to recapture that magic again this week. It’s just the second road game of the year for this young Indy team as they were crushed earlier by Chicago 41-21 with Luck throwing 3 interceptions. This game is simply more important to the Jets, they have the better defense and we roll with them at home.

                          SUNDAY ACTION:

                          NFL FOOTBALL:
10* Game of the Week: DALLAS COWBOYS

                          5* TAMPA BAY

                          4* Buffalo

The Cowboys have had almost two weeks to prepare for this game and get their running game back on track. Last year, they scored a ton and couldn't stop anyone. This year, their defense is very good, but their offense has struggled.

Jason Witten said, "This has to be a wake-up call for us." And Dallas has always performed well off blowout losses, in the past, so I expect Romo and his WR's to be on the same page tonight and the Cowboys running game to get going with Murray to have a big day.

                          -------------------------------------------
Kansas City Chiefs losing Matt Cassel hurts the team in the passing game. Even though he wasn’t spectacular, now steps in Brady Quinn, who still hasn’t really shown the promise that many held. The Kansas City Chiefs boast Jamaal Charles who is maddening to defend, but faces a strong run defense in the Bucs, the Chiefs coming off an emotional 3 point loss could be dejected playing on the road. The Tampa Bay Bucs are 3-1 ATS over all, which is a good sign. As well as the Buccaneers offense has been playing slightly better against a defense that is sloppy. The Buccaneers cover behind big plays from Vincent Jackson and the turnover problems KC continue to have.
