Indian Cowboy's Picks For College Basketball
3-Unit Play. #516 Take DePaul +2.5 over Villanova (Tuesday @ 7pm est)
3-Unit Play. #517 Take Youngstown State -2 over Cleveland State (Tuesday @ 7pm est)
Oliver Purnell's team is 1-7 in conference play and although that looks disappointing, if you look at the actual games and the splits you can tell this team is improving. This is a team that lost in overtime to Notre Dame, lost to overtime against St. John's and lost to Cincinnati by 5 points. Villanova had a pair of huge wins over Syracuse and Louisville both at home but have lost their last two games to Notre Dame and Providence. This is one of the bigger public fades on the board as well and though Villanova is a very good team they are outside the top 300 when it comes to turnover percentage and Depaul is top 160 in turnover margin and also a decent defense at top 120. If Depaul can keep this a half-court game, I suspect the edge goes to the home team here who could win this game outright. Youngstown State is a team that is top 70 in turnover margin which is one of my favorite categories to keep tabs with. This team comes off a tough loss to Detroit on the road but still sits at 5-4 in conference play. State is a squad that does well against teams outside the top 200 on the road including beating Bowling Green 58-49 earlier in the year and Bethune Cookman 67-51. I like the small favorite to do well here on the road and wouldn't be surprised to see them have a tie game most of the way and then pull ahead in the second half.

3-Unit Play. Take Over 216.5 Golden State vs. Houston (Tuesday @ 8:05pm est).
Golden State put up 114 and 108 against Toronto and Cleveland and now as they face an up-tempo offense against Houston you'd have to think that the energy level would be more to exceed that point total. Add on the fact that State is the Underdog going into this game and you have the possibility of an active underdog that could push this game over the posted total. Put it this way, if State wins this game its going to be through being an active underdog and pushing this game over the posted total and in the same token if Houston wins this game its going to behind their offensive output as well. With both these teams sporting such young talent from top down as part of their youth movement, I like both teams to get after it as Coach Jackson will believe his young athletes are likely superior to Houston's lineup and obviously Houston knows only to play in one way which is a high tempo constant dribble offense. The Over is 5-0 for the Warriors in their last 5 road games and the Over is 8-0 when Houston plays a winning team at home.

6-Unit Play. #53. Take New York Rangers -120 over New Jersey (Tuesday @ 7:05pm est).
The rivalry is back on for the first time since May 25, when Adam Henrique's overtime winner in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals lifted the Devils into the Stanley Cup Final. They also won't meet again until March 19. The "Blue Shirts" win in Tampa Bay was their best performance of the season to date as New York did a much better as far as puck protection, on the boards, especially offensively. The Rangers had some more offensive zone time, were more disciplined and line changes were better. It's a good bet that Henrik Lundqvist will return between the pipes for Tuesday's game. Lundqvist is the team's MVP and solving his mastery in between the pipes is never easy. The Rangers also made a trade Monday to bolster their forward depth, sending little-used Mike Rupp to Minnesota in exchange for Darroll Powe and minor-leaguer Nick Palmieri. New Jersey held an optional practice Monday in which only seven players participated. The Devils are in the middle of eight games in (14) days, four this week and four next week. Since these teams met in the Stanley Cup Playoffs HC Peter DeBoer lost two assistant coaches: Adam Oates and Larry Robinson. Oates left to become coach of the Washington Capitals and Robinson joined the San Jose Sharks as an associate coach and Captain Zach Parise departed, signing a 13-year, $98 million contract with the Minnesota Wild on July 4.
