River city sharps - We are taking a hard look at the Villanova-Providence game tonight on the Main Line in Philly. Providence is actually the last team to win at the Pavilion and the Wildcats want to remain unbeaten at home this season. They took their first step towards a Big East title the other night with their win at Butler and now Ed Cooley's Providence friars come to town. Providence is 92-66 OVER after a game where they failed to cover the spread since 1997 and Villanova is 22-11 OVER against conference opponents over the last 3 seasons. If you look at the stats from both of these teams, both of them shoot FT well and Villanova is scoring over 80 ppg. Providence is coming off a tough double-OT loss to Seton Hall and we expect them to come back tonight with a spirited effort, led by all-conference Bryce Cotton. We're not sure Providence can get the win tonight, but we hink they make it interesting and this number is way too low. This game is going OVER the posted total, so the Sharps say...

In case you haven't notice, new-look Toronto is playing real well with a winning road record. The Raptors are 7-1 ATS in their last eight road games, on a 5-0 ATS run overall. The much-improved Toronto Raptors look to extend a season-high win streak to six games here. The Raptors are 10-3 since the departure of second-leading scorer Rudy Gay in a seven-player deal with Sacramento. Gay could score, but was a bad shooter and took way too many shots. They are much better without him on offense, and are a terrific defensive team, sixth in the NBA in points allowed. Toronto boasts wins over Indiana and Oklahoma City in its last seven games, and is now the No. 4 seed in the East. They have plenty to prove, while Miami has nothing to prove. The Heat is 2-6 ATS in their last eight home games and had to play yesterday, while Toronto has one day of rest. Miami is 5-12 ATS after a double digit win, and the Raptors are 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings in Miami. Play Toronto.

San Francisco comes into this game in tremendous form as they’ve won 6 consecutive games.* The 49ers have won 11 of their last 13 games; this team is hot at the right time. *San Francisco*takes to the road in this game and they are taking a major step-down in defensive class.* The 49ers’ offense was limited last week against the stout*Arizona*defense, but*San Francisco*is dynamic now that they have their full compliment of players back on the field.* QB Colin Kaepernick wasn’t too productive early this season, but that has changed recently.* Kaepernick has accounted for 19 total touchdowns and just 4 turnovers over his last ten ballgames, and that has coincided with the return of*San Francisco’s skill players.* The 49ers have been terrific as a road favorite this year as they are a perfect 5-0 ATS in that role winning by 24, 14, 32, 21, and 19 points.Green Bay has won three of their last four games, including last week’s 33-28 win inChicago*to secure a playoff spot.* The Packers got QB Aaron Rodgers back under center last week, and obviously he’s the key player for*Green Bay.* But he was rusty last week while throwing two interceptions.* The weather is going to be frigid for this game, and with Rodgers just coming back from a broken collarbone, the extreme cold does him no favors, especially against the stoutSan Francisco*defense.* The 49ers are giving up just 17 points per game while holding opponents to 5.0 yards per play (#8 in the NFL) and 6.1 yards per pass attempt (#8). *San Francisco*holds a huge defensive edge as*Green Bay*gives up 26.8 points per game while allowing opponents 5.9 yards per play (#28) and 7.3 yards per pass attempt (#25). *San Francisco*is a perfect 3-0 SU/ATS versus the Packers the past two seasons, including beating Green Bay 34-28 in the season opener in September and also winning 45-31 in last year’s playoffs.* The 49ers are the better team, so we’ll lay the points in this game on Sunday.Play 49ERS (-) as a 3% play.

These two teams just met last month in*San Diego with the Bengals winning 17-10. *Cincinnati was a Best Bet winner for us in that game as they were in a terrific scheduling and situational spot on December 1st. *San Diego was coming off their huge 41-38 comeback win at*Kansas City*the week before while the Bengals were fresh off their bye week.* Despite the poor spot, the Chargers played well in that loss, and if not for two red zone turnovers, the outcome may have been different. *San Diego*has morphed into a different team over the second half of the season.* The Chargers were a pass-heavy attack early on, letting QB Philip Rivers throw the ball all over the field. *San Diego’s offense was successful, but their defense paid the price.* Head coach Mike McCoy and offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt have changed to a run-based offense; Ryan Mathews had the most carries in the NFL (121) over the final five weeks while gaining 534 yards, good for #2 in the league over that 5-game span.* The ability to run the ball and control the clock has paid dividends for*San Diego*as they went 4-1 SU over their last five games.* The Chargers’ defense has allowed 17.6 points per game over their last five games; that’s 4.2 points per game less than their season average of 21.8 points per game.Cincinnati has won five of their last six games with four of those wins coming at home.* The Bengals are a perfect 8-0 SU and ATS at home, but it seems many are just catching on to that fact.* We’ve used the Bengals in six straight home games in either a straight play or a teaser so we were well ahead of the curve.* However, the Bengals have feasted on bad teams recently as the home wins have come against non-playoff teams like the Ravens, Vikings, Browns, and Jets.* They did beat the Colts as well, but as we saw yesterday,*Indianapolis*is a flawed team.* The weather in this game is supposed to turn ugly, and that is a major factor in this game.* Cincinnati QB Andy Dalton has had some poor games in bad weather in his career, and nasty weather eliminates one of the Bengals biggest threats, deep passes down the field to A.J. Green. *Cincinnati*has a stout defense, but*San Diego*was able to move the ball in the earlier season meeting. *When we combine the recent match-up with San Diego’s new style of play with the inclement weather, we expect this game to be conservatively played and close throughout.* We’ll take the points with*San Diego*in this game on Sunday afternoon.-------------------No opinion on either Over/Under for Sunday.
