            Atlanta Braves - 1.5 (RL) + 110

The Braves host the Marlins tonight in the first game of a 4 game set in Atlanta. Julio Teheran will toe the rubber for the hosts and has been nothing short of exceptional at home in 2014. In 9 Home starts, he is 3-1 with a 1.23 ERA and a 0.80 WHIP. Teheran has allowed just 3 ER in his last 5 starts at Turner Field and his command has been incredible. Opposing teams are hitting just .177 against Teheran in those 9 home outings.

The Marlins give the ball to Tom Koehler, who has been very inconsistent this season. He has struggled on the road, going 2-4 in 10 starts away from Miami with a 5.37 ERA and a lofty 1.51 WHIP. In 4 career starts against the Braves, Koehler has a 0-2 record whilst pitching to a 4.24 ERA. On the other hand, Teheran is 4-0 in 6 career starts against the Marlins pitching to a 2.50 ERA.

Because the Braves are a big chalk (- 182), I do see value on the RL tonight with Teheran on the mound and a Marlins team which has struggled to score runs on the road this year.

                  River City Sharps

The Mets travel to Seattle tonight to take on the Mariners in a three-game series where they will give the ball to Jon Niese. The M's will counter with Roenis Elias and we are going to play against him here in this spot. Niese has been on the DL for the Mets with a shoulder injury, but before he went to the DL, he had pitched very well for the Mets and has yet to allow more than three runs in any start this season. Elias is in the midst of a three-game losing streak where he has been absolutely shelled, giving up 17 runs in 14 innings of work. Another angle here tonight is going to be the fatigue on the Mariners side, where they played a total of 37 innings this past weekend while dropping two of three games to the Angels. The Mariners are 3-7 in Elias' last 10 starts vs. a team with a losing record and the Mets are 13-5 in their last 18 interleague road games. We expect the Mets to hit around Elias hard tonight while getting a solid outing from Niese and also think the Mariners won't expose their fatigued bullpen to lots of innings. The Sharps say...

                        DOC SPORTS (MLB)

3-unit Play Take #901 San Francisco Giants (+115) over Philadelphia Phillies (7:05pm EST)

The San Francisco Giants have put together a great season at 54-44 through the first 98 games. They’ve done it with a balanced effort and contributions from nearly the entire 25-man roster. One guy who they weren’t sure they’d be able to count on coming into the 2014 season is today’s starter Ryan Vogelsong. After a tough 2013 campaign with a 5.73 ERA, the right-hander has bounced back nicely this season. He has improved his strikeout and walk rates, and brought his ERA down to 3.86 in 19 starts. He’ll get a Phillies team today that is more worried about who they are going to trade than they are with winning ballgames. The Phils are a mess right now at 43-55, and the rebuilding process is set to kick off soon. Cliff Lee is one of the guys that will get heavy attention and this is his first major league start back from the disabled list. I generally don’t like betting against the crafty southpaw, but if there’s a time to do it’s now while he’s rusty. The Giants have also hit lefties well this season overall. Philadelphia has been horrible at home this season at 19-29, which is the worst in the NL. The Giants, meanwhile, have been road warriors at 26-19. This one sets up well for San Francisco and we get a nice underdog price.

                        ALLEN EASTMAN (MLB)

                        8-Unit Play. Take #912 N.Y. Yankees (-1.5, +120) over Texas (7 p.m., Monday, July 21)
I love the Yankees today and I think the Rangers will get blown out again. This team is the worst team in baseball. Injuries have destroyed the roster and the Blue Jays just blew out the Rangers again on Sunday. Texas is going with rookie Miles Mikolas. He has an ERA over 10.00 in his three starts. Now he is making a start in Yankee Stadium. The Yankees looked good over the weekend. They know they need to make a push to stay near the top of the A.L. East. The Yankees are going with young Shane Greene. Unlike Mikolas he has looked strong in his only two starts, posting a 1.32 ERA. There is no love lost in this series and the Yankees have won nine of 12 at home against Texas. The Rangers are just 16-35 in their last 51 games overall and they are 3-14 in their last 17 road games. New York is 5-1 as a favorite and riding high after their weekend sweep fo the Reds. I like the Yankees to keep it going and to get a big winner here. This bet has a lot of value because of the + money and could result in a nearly $1,000 payout if it come through.

                          ROBERT FERRINGO (MLB)

                          1-Unit Play. Take #901 San Francisco (+115) over Philadelphia (7 p.m., Monday, July 21)

                          1-Unit Play. Take #906 Atlanta (-1.5, +115) over Miami (7 p.m., Monday, July 21)

                          1-Unit Play. Take #908 Milwaukee (-125) over Cincinnati (8 p.m., Monday, July 21)

The Brewers have come back to earth – like I predicted they would – after getting off to a great start and seizing control of the N.L. Central. They took their knocks over the weekend, losing two of three in Washington. But yesterday’s loss was a tough one and the Brewers were that close to winning a road series against a very good team. Cincinnati is just not the same without Brandon Phillips and they were body slammed in New York by the Yankees. I love Mat Latos. But he is just 3-3 on the season and he is an underdog here for a reason. He isn’t getting run support and the Brewers have been outstanding at home. I think they strike first in this key series.

                          2-Unit Play. Take #909 Washington (-140) over Colorado (8:40 p.m., Monday, July 21)
Foolishly, I went away from my “bet against the Rockies every day” approach over the weekend. Honestly, the moneylines were just too high. But now that the Rockies are back home we might get some playable numbers here. Franklin Morales is a fringe MLB pitcher at best and Doug Fister is really founding into form. Troy Tulowitski, Justin Morneau, and Charlie Blackmon are all banged up and not 100 percent for the Rockies. No bet against the Rockies is a bad bet.

                          1-Unit Play. Take #915 Cleveland (-120) over Minnesota (8 p.m., Monday, July 21)

                          3-Unit Play. Take #921 Detroit (-135) over Arizona (9:40 p.m., Monday, July 21)
Justin Verlander’s struggles this year have been well-documented. But I think he is going to be sharp tonight. He had extra time to rest and I think the All Star Break was the perfect tonic for him. Of course, facing Arizona doesn’t hurt either and there is a wide gap between these two rosters. This bet is 100 percent on Verlander.

AND I ALSO LIKE A 1-UNIT PLAY ON ‘UNDER’ 9.0 HERE. I think Detroit is going to do enough to win a low-scoring game here.

                          2-Unit Play. Take #924 Seattle (-120) over N.Y. Mets (10 p.m., Monday, July 21)
Seattle is really good, the Mets are really not, and the momentum that the Mets had before the All Star break is gone. Yes, Seattle is a bit tired for its trying series against the Angels. But the fact is that the Angels are ridiculous right now – especially at home – and the Mariners were that close to sweeping all three of those games. Seattle is legit. And the Mets have been real hit or miss against lefties. I think this number is about 25 cents short so it is worth a play.

                          Today’s Totals

                          1-Unit Play. Take ‘Over’ 8.5 – Baltimore at L.A. Angels (10 p.m., Monday, July 21)

                          1-Unit Play. Take ‘Under’ 7.5 – L.A. Dodgers at Pittsburgh (7 p.m., Monday, July 21)

3 Unit Play. #908 Take Milwaukee -125 over Cincinnati (8:10p.m., Monday July 21)
The Reds are coming to Milwaukee after 3-Straight road losses in New York and the Yankees pitching staff own the Reds batters. The Reds have played well on the road against division opponents but Milwaukee needs to start winning games a pulling away from the Cards. Milwaukee and St. Louis are tied in the division and the Brewers have struggled at home. Tonight the Brew Crew grabs game 1 of this 3-game series and look for a big 2nd half in Milwaukee.

*Green is NOT a good pitcher, not even average at this level, and was only called up out of “desperation”. He is making his home debut on the heels of what will probably be his only “dominating” performance at this level, a recipe for disaster! Mikolas ERA misleading because he’s been a victim of an unusually high strand rate. He is a groundball pitcher with a strong K/BB ratio. 19-0 trend going against certain home teams coming off a home series sweep. 16-0 trend going against certain rookie pitchers (Green) coming off a dominating performance.
