    Devils vs. Sabres
    Sabres-126

The Buffalo Sabres are still in search of their first win of the season after a 3-2 SO loss to the Habs followed by a 6-3 defeat to the Islanders. I like the price we get on the Sabres to finally get their win here when they host the New Jersey Devils Monday night.
New Jersey opened the season with a 4-1 win against Colorado, but it took a terrific effort from Cory Schneider to lock down the win. The Devils goalie was forced to make 40 saves and they can't rely on him play like that every game.
Let's go with the still winless home team to get the job done here.

Monday comp play is to look for Minnesota and Chicago to hold Under the posted price.

I know Minnesota is hoping for a complete game from Sam Bradford tonight at quarterback, but there is no way you can say with 100% certainty that Bradford is going to be able to go the distance. Not only that, but with Dalvin Cook now lost for the season, Minny is going to have trouble mustering points.

The Vikings could only score 7-points last week in a home Under against Detroit, and they were limited to just 9-points in a loss at Pittsburgh earlier this season that also held Under the total.

The Bears will turn to rookie Mitchell Trubisky at QB tonight as John Fox looks to jump start his offense. Thus far both of Chicago's home games have ended up Under the total, and even a change under center cannot mask the fact the Bears have very limited offensive weapons to begin with.

The last 3 series meetings at Soldier Field have held Under the total, as have 5 of the last 7 meetings overall.

Nothing changes tonight. Vikings and Bears Under the total.

      3* MINNESOTA-CHICAGO UNDER

Houston can clinch this AL Division Series in Boston tonight after taking the first two at home, and then dropping one on Sunday.

Charlie Morton will pitch for Houston, while Rick Porcello will make the start for the Red Sox as they look to stay alive. His last start against this Astros team was in Houston on June 17 and he got hit like a pinata - 7 runs on 10 hits in 6 innings of non-work as the Red Sox lost that one 7-1.

Lets face it, the Astros are hot, 24-9 in their last 33 overall and they have played exceptionally well on the road lately too, 7-2 in their last nine away games. They also play well against great teams, 7-2 in their last nine against opponents with winning records.

Pitching is always the key to the postseason, and Morton is also hot, 5-1 last six starts.

Finally the Astros own the Red Sox, they are 5-2 last seven times these two teams played. Boston, on the other hand has proven that they cannot beat strong teams lately, 2-5 last 7 vs teams with winning percentages over .600. And finally the Red Sox just don't get the money in the playoffs, 1-5 last 6 in the postseason.

        Astros clinch.

        1* HOUSTON

            MLB | Dodgers vs Diamondbacks
Play on: Diamondbacks +105 at 5Dimes

10* FREE MLB PICK (Diamondbacks +105)
Arizona shouldn't be a home dog to the Dodgers tonight. The Diamondbacks need to win here to extend the series and I think they do just that. Arizona has the edge on the mound here with ace Zack Greinke going up against Yu Darvish. Greinke wasn't great in the Wild Card game, but everyone is going to have a bad outing. I'll trust the 13-1 record and 3.08 ERA and 0.986 WHIP he's posted over 19 home starts this season. Darvish has been hit or miss since coming to LA and while he was sharp in his last 3 starts, it came against the Giants, Phillies and Padres. This Arizona offense is one of the best in baseball, especially at home, where they are hitting .276 as a team and scoring just under 6 runs/game. It's also worth pointing out that Greinke has faced the Dodgers twice at home and allowed just 4 runs on 8 hits in 12 2/3 innings. Give me the Diamondbacks +105!

                          Preview: Devils at Sabres

                          Gracenote
                          Oct 9, 2017

The Buffalo Sabres have received a two-goal performance from a player in each of their first two games this season but have yet to land in the win column. Buffalo looks to finally earn two points when it hosts the New Jersey Devils on Monday afternoon.

Jason Pominville scored both goals in his return to the Sabres on Thursday, when the club opened the campaign with a 3-2 shootout loss to Montreal, while Evander Kane netted a pair of short-handed tallies in a 6-3 road setback against the New York Islanders two days later. The 26-year-old Kane recorded a total of two short-handers in 172 games over his previous three seasons. New Jersey is coming off a season-opening 4-1 home victory over Colorado on Saturday that saw Jesper Bratt and defenseman Will Butcher combine for a goal and four assists in their first NHL contest. Kyle Palmieri set up a pair of tallies but exited the win with a lower-body injury and is questionable to face Buffalo.

TV: 3 p.m. ET, MSG (New Jersey, Buffalo)

ABOUT THE DEVILS (1-0-0): In addition to Palmieri, Drew Stafford went down in the opener with a lower-body injury and missed Sunday's practice. The 31-year-old Stafford, who is in his first season with New Jersey, reached the 20-goal plateau three times while spending the first 8 1/2 campaigns of his career with the Sabres. Butcher notched three assists in Saturday's win, becoming the first player in franchise history to record three points in his NHL debut.

ABOUT THE SABRES (0-1-1): Jack Eichel is the only member of the team other than Pominville and Kane to score a goal thus far this season and has notched two assists to put him one point behind Kane for the club lead. Kyle Okposo and Sam Reinhart, who combined for 36 goals and 92 points last season, have yet to land on the scoresheet in 2017-18. Defenseman Zach Bogosian is unlikely to make his season debut Monday as he continues to recover from the lower-body injury he suffered during the preseason.

                          OVERTIME

                          1. Kane is two games shy of 500 for his career.

                          2. New Jersey RW Jimmy Hayes, who made the team after attending training camp on a tryout basis, scored the game-winning goal on Saturday while 18-year-old C Nico Hischier, who was drafted first overall in June, registered six shots in 15 minutes, 44 seconds of ice time.

                          3. Buffalo has allowed a league-high three short-handed goals this season.

                          PREDICTION: Devils 4, Sabres 1

The Chicago Blackhawks have scored the most goals in the first two games of a season in franchise history and meet another team that has had no trouble offensively when they visit the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday. The Blackhawks scored 10 in the opener against Pittsburgh and followed up with a 5-1 victory over Columbus on Saturday, while Toronto has matched them with 15 goals in two victories to begin the campaign.

“We’ve had some good pace to our team, and I think the guys are excited about their linemates and possibilities of scoring (and) making plays,” Chicago coach Joel Quenneville told reporters. “We manage the puck without it the right way. Guys are doing a lot of good things with it.” Patrick Kane and Ryan Hartman have recorded six points apiece while Brandon Saad has scored four times in two games for the Blackhawks, who have managed to tally just once on the power play. The Maple Leafs scored seven times in their season-opening win over Winnipeg but squandered a four-goal lead Saturday before netting the final three tallies en route to an 8-5 victory over the New York Rangers. “It’s kind of fun, eh?” Toronto coach Mike Babcock told reporters. “Nah, it’s dumb. We had a lot of guys take their turn at turning (the puck) over and being silly and doing crazy things. Saying all that, we also had a lot of guys play real hard at times and do things right.”

ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (2-0-0): While the offense is grabbing all the headlines, Chicago has allowed just one goal in each of the first two games and Corey Crawford has been sharp, turning aside 60-of-62 shots. “I know we scored a ton of goals, but our (defense) has been great moving the puck up, getting in the rush, ending plays quick in our zone,” Crawford told reporters. “Every aspect of our game right now is looking good. We just have to keep that momentum going.” Quenneville has been impressed by the play of 27-year-old defenseman Jan Rutta, who has posted a plus-7 rating and scored his first NHL goal on Saturday.

ABOUT THE MAPLE LEAFS (2-0-0): Toronto has spread the scoring around as centers Nazem Kadri and Auston Matthews lead the way with four points apiece while its power play has been lethal, scoring on five of its 10 opportunities. Patrick Marleau has been comfortable with his new team, scoring twice in the opener before assisting on a power-play goal against the Rangers, while Zach Hyman netted a pair of tallies on Saturday. Dominic Moore began his second stint with the Maple Leafs by winning all nine of his faceoffs and scoring a goal in Saturday’s victory after replacing Eric Fehr in the lineup.

                              OVERTIME

                              1. Chicago C Nick Schmaltz (upper body), who had recorded two goals and an assist in his first two games, was not expected to make the trip.

                              2. Toronto C Tyler Bozak has notched three points in his first two contests and needs one assist to reach 200 for his career.

                              3. The Blackhawks have won the last five meetings but needed overtime and a shootout to capture both last season.

PREDICTION: Maple Leafs 5, Blackhawks 4
