The Ole Miss Rebels have been grossly undervalued here in the meat of the SEC schedule. They have gone just 4-4 SU but 7-1 ATS in their last eight games overall with their only point spread loss coming in a 68-71 defeat at Missouri as 1.5-point dogs.
Off tough back-to-back road losses at Kentucky by 5 and at Missouri by 3, the Rebels should be highly motivated for a win when they return home Saturday. The Rebels are 3-1 SU & 4-0 ATS in their last four home games with their only loss coming to Auburn 82-83 (OT). They beat Mississippi State by 25, Florida by 17 and South Carolina by 14 in their other three home games.
Alabama has really come back down to reality here down the stretch. The Crimson Tide are 2-5 SU in their last seven games overall. That includes upset home losses to Arkansas, Tennessee and Texas A&M. I give them little chance to even be competitive in this game tonight.
Ole Miss is 16-3 SU in its last 19 home meetings with Alabama. The Rebels are 19-10 ATS in all home games over the last two seasons. Alabama is 38-65 ATS in its last 103 games as a road underdog of 6 points or less or PK. The Rebels are 17-3 ATS vs. teams who make 8 or more 3-point shots per game over the last two seasons. Bet Ole Miss Saturday.

The losing streak ends tonight. DePaul will put their 8-game skid to rest with a win at home over Georgetown, easily covering as a small favorite. Blue Demons play 3 of their next 4 on the road against Xavier, Butler and Providence, with the lone home game against Marquette. This game against a depleted Hoyas team is a must win for DePaul.
Blue Demons also will be motivated to get revenge from a loss to the Hoyas on the road a couple weeks ago. A game they have to feel like they should have won, as they led by double-digits.
Georgetown's Mac McClung is back on the injury list and big man Omer Yurtseven remains questionable to play. If Yurtseven can't go that would leave the Hoya's with just 6 healthy scholarship players. Real tough to win on the road in these circumstances.
You also want to stay clear of the Hoyas whenever the books set the line around a pick'em. Georgetown is 4-12 ATS under head coach Pat Ewing with a line of +3 to -3. Blue Demons are 11-5 ATS last 16 off a double-digit loss at home and Hoyas 2-5 ATS last 7 as a dog. Take DePaul!

Starting in the Pac-12, the No. 14 Oregon Ducks will be on the road against the No. 24 Arizona Wildcats. Later that night in Provo, the No. 2 Gonzaga Bulldogs will face off against the No. 23 BYU
Cougars in a West Coast Conference clash.

Betting Matchup

The Ducks closed as slight two-point road favorites in Thursday’s matchup against Arizona State but they came up short in a 77-72 loss. This was their third straight-up loss in their last five outings to fall a game off the pace for the Pac-12 regular season title at 9-5. Oregon (20-7 SU) drops to 15-12 against the spread after failing to cover in nine of its 14 Pac-12 games. The total has gone OVER in eight of those contests.

Senior guard Payton Pritchard is averaging a team-high 19.4 points per game. He ended Thursday’s game with 18 points.

Arizona (19-7 SU, 15-11 ATS) is right in the mix for the conference title at 9-4 after winning its last three games SU and ATS. The Wildcats are 6-1 SU in their last seven games with a 5-2 record ATS. One of those four losses in Pac-12 play was against Oregon on the road with tight 74-73 setback on Jan. 9 as three-point underdogs. They were on the right side of Thursday’s 89-63 romp over Oregon State as 10 ½-point favorites at home. The total went OVER 137 points in that game after staying UNDER in six of Arizona’s previous eight games.

Josh Green led the way against Oregon State with 18 points.

Betting Trends

-- The Ducks are 3-6 SU in their last nine road games as underdogs but they improve to 6-1 ATS in their last seven road games getting points. The total has stayed UNDER in four of their last six road games as underdogs.

-- The Wildcats have won eight of their last 10 home games SU closing as favorites with a 6-4 record ATS. The total has gone OVER in three of their last five games as home favorites.

-- With this year’s win, Oregon is 7-3 SU in its last 10 games against Arizona. The Ducks failed to cover in that January meeting for the first time in the last five meetings between the two. The total has gone OVER in seven of the last 10 meetings.

Betting Matchup

The Bulldogs continue their quest for a perfect record in WCC play riding an overall SU 19-game winning streak but they have failed to cover in four of their last six games. They did beat San Francisco 71-54 on Thursday night to cover as 16 ½-point favorites at home. The total stayed UNDER 156 points in that game after going OVER in their previous nine outings. Gonzaga is 27-1 SU overall with a 15-12-1 record ATS. Killian Tillie led the way on Thursday night with 22 points and nine rebounds.

Gonzaga has seven different players averaging at least 10 PPG.

BYU knocked off Santa Clara 85-75 on Thursday as a 14 ½-point home favorite to improve to 11-3 SU in conference play. One of the three losses was a 92-69 blowout at the hands of Gonzaga on Jan. 18 as a 13-point road underdog. The Cougars are riding a SU seven-game winning streak as part of a 22-7 record on the year. They failed to cover in their last two games to slip to 17-11 ATS. The total has gone OVER in five of their last eight contests.

TJ Haws had the hot hand for BYU on Thursday with 28 points while dishing out nine assists.

RACE 1: Post 12:30 PT. Grade: B-
Use: 2-Kadesh; 8-Royal Suspect

Forecast: Royal Suspect is improving with racing and appears ready to graduate in this main track maiden-claiming miler for 3-year-olds. Third when seven lengths clear of the rest while earning a good speed figure last month, the M. Glatt-trained gelding should draft into a second-flight, stalking position and have every chance from the top of the lane to the wire. Kadesh drops in class for the fourth straight time – not really a healthy sign – but after missing by a head in a low-rated maiden $50,000 affair over this track and distance the R. Hanson-trained colt certainly won’t have to improve much at all to earn his diploma at this bottom-rung level. We’ll use both in our rolling exotics and then press with extra tickets keying Royal Suspect on top.

RACE 2: Post 1:00 PT. Grade: X
Single: 7-Saving Sophie

Forecast: Saving Sophie has been been stuck on seconds – she’s been the runner-up in each of her last four outings – but the R. Ellis-trained filly adds blinkers today, gets an extra furlong to work with, and may finally break through in this below par nine furlong turf affair for older fillies and mares. She switches to M. Smith and should be capable of producing the last run, but at 9/5 on the morning line and likely to go lower she won’t be offering much in the way of wagering value, other than as a short price rolling exotic single.

RACE 3: Post 1:29 PT. Grade: C+
Use: 4-Shanghai Barbie; 5-Boonesboro Beauty

Forecast: We’ll double the third race, a restricted (nw-2) $12,500 claiming main track miler for older fillies and mares. Shanghai Barbie, in the money in her last four, is overdue for a win and seems the logical top pick, though after being handed an easy early lead with slow fractions and then blowing a clear lead in mid-stretch in a similar event last month she might not be one to trust. Boonesboro Beauty, third in the same race ‘Barbie exits, also may not be one to count on after missing at even money, however she switches to hot-riding U. Rispoli and projects to enjoy a cozy stalking trip outside. We suspect the winner will be one of these two, but neither one really offers much wagering value.

RACE 4: Post 1:59 PT. Grade: B
Use: 3-Divine Armor; 6-Yeng Again

Forecast: Yeng Again missed at 4/5 in his debut but earned a giant number when second while five lengths clear of the others, so we’ll give him a chance to make amends while stretching out to a distance he’s bred to handle. The R. Baltas-trained son of Carpe Diem retains bug boy J. Velez and will take some catching if he leaves cleanly from his outside draw. Divine Armor, also beaten at odds-on last time out, adds blinkers after finishing second in his last pair. The son of Include may display improved early speed with the hood on. We’ll prefer Yeng Again on top but use both in our rolling exotics.

RACE 5: Post 2:29 PT. Grade: B+
Single: 1-Jolie Olimpica; 2-Carressa

Forecast: Unbeaten Joli Olimpica was highly impressive winning her U. S. debut in the Las Cienegas S.-G3 sprinting on turf last month and today should tackles a tougher group while stretching out to a mile. She was a Group-1 stakes winner in her native Brazil before being imported to the States, so the extra distance shouldn’t be any issue, and while she won from a stalking position last time out the daughter of Drosselmeyer may inherit the role as the controlling speed from her good inside draw. Carressa won her turf debut in capturing the Megahertz Stakes over this course and distance last month and did so impressively. She’ll need to step it up to challenge the favorite, but the lightly-raced daughter of Uncle Mo has plenty of upside and could be up to the task. Preference on top goes to Jolie Olimpica but we’ll use both in our rolling exotics.

RACE 6: Post 3:01 PT. Grade: B
Use: 2-Rinse and Repeat; 7-Temple Knights

Forecast: Rinse and Repeat has two wins from 28 starts along with 13 seconds and thirds, so while he usually hits the board the veteran son of Square Eddie – who just finished second as the 6/5 favorite in a similar spot – can’t always be counted on to seal the deal. However, at this extended sprint distance, and without pace to ensure decent early fractions, the S. Knapp-trained veteran may be able to find a way to get it done. Temple Knights, in good form for A. Lerner and likely to enjoy a soft pace-stalking trip in a race that might be slowly run early, earned a career top speed figure when beating a restricted $12,5000 field here just eight days ago and must be considered dangerous right back. Like Rinse and Repeat, the son of Temple City should draft into second flight early position and have dead aim when the pressure is turned on. Both should be included in rolling exotic play and very slight edge on top to Rinse and Repeat.

RACE 7: Post 3:32 PT. Grade: C+
Use: 1-Sunrise Royale; 3-Avalon Ride

Forecast: This first-level allowance turf miler for California-bred fillies and mares is an absolute raffle. A win by anyone of the five entrants would not surprise us. Avalon Ride, third in her last pair when facing similar company, should be a major factor again and really won’t have to improve much to win. She’s drawn nicely inside, and with some help up front should have her chance to tag the speed in the final furlong. Sunrise Royale lands the rail and probably will employ gate-to-wire tactics. Fourth in the same race Avalon Ride just finished third in, the daughter of Informed was forced into hot fractions and paid the price late, but with a little less pace pressure today she could stick around a long time. These are the two we’ll be using in our rolling exotics but not with a great deal of confidence.

RACE 8: Post 4:02 PT. Grade: B-
Use: 3-Promise Nothing; 6-Jaxon’s Goldie; 11-Call Offthe Lure

Forecast: This challenging maiden $30,000 claiming sprint requires a spread in rolling exotic play. We’ll try to get by using just three, but if you feel the need to go deeper, go right ahead. Jaxon’s Goldie, a fair fifth on turf in his debut vs. optional claiming types, tries maidens today while tackling a much easier group and seems likely to have found his friends. The son of Goldencents should be on or near the lead throughout. Promise Nothing has the route-to-sprint angle we like and ran better than the line will show when forced to lose ground from a poor outside draw against similar opposition as the favorite last month. Perhaps most comfortable as a late-running sprinter, the R. Becerra-trained colt should be dangerous if held up early and allowed to run late. Call ofthe Lure is a first-timer from the T. Yakteen barn (strong with debut runners) with an okay work tab and lands F. Prat, so you have to include him as well.

RACE 9: Post 4:34 PT. Grade: B
Use: 2-Exhort; 7-K P Indy; 8-Much More Halo

Forecast: Exhort is an intriguing first-time starter from the D. O’Neill barn that brought $135,000 at the OBS Sale last April and impressed during the previous session while displaying good speed. He finally makes it to the post almost a year later, but where will he run? The son of Will Take Charge shows a couple of bullet drills at San Luis Rey Downs to signal his readiness but was also entered a maiden sprint in tomorrow’s fifth race at Golden Gate Fields. As of this writing, we’re not quite sure where he’ll show up. K P Indy, freshened since the fall and training solidly for the J. Mullins barn, displayed ability sprinting on grass as a two-year-old and has every right to return better than he left. Much More Halo continues to train like he has more ability that he has shown in the afternoon so far, but we suspect he’ll prove most effective sprinting on turf and gets those conditions today. With the switch to F. Prat, the son of More Than Ready should have no excuses.

Al Cimaglia: February 22-Hawthorne Late Pick 4 Analysis

Hawthorne Racecourse has a 13-race card scheduled to start its second week of harness action. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 begins in Race 10 and will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 10

3-Waymore (10-1)-Oosting gets the lines after a tightener out of the 10-hole. This gelding is 10 out of 16 in the money at Haw with 4 wins and raced the back half last week in 56.2. Using and will hope the morning line is correct.
7-Native's Best Bet (3-1)-Steps up after a sharp win versus $6k claimers. This may not be as easy but fits here as well, and best to respect.
9-Mitch Mc Bluegrass (10-1)-Has more wins in 2020 (2) than all of last year. Can race off cover and didn't have smooth trip in last. Warren sticks and this is another price shot worth a swing in a race without a standout.

Race 11

3-Lucky Crusader (7/2)-Oosting's choice over #2 could be significant as he's made a few trips to the winner's circle for the Adam barn. Slow pace hurt in last and looking for a better effort in 2nd local start.
4-Bright Future (5-1)-Raced wide most of the way and kept coming in 1st start for new barn. Now drops to a softer spot and looks like a player. Biggest negative is the 0-40 record in Stickney.

Race 12

2-Uncle Si (7/2)-1st local start was an even effort after arriving from PPk. Should be better tonight and appears to have the best chance of downing #5 if the chalk comes up flat.

Race 13

1-Boogie On Down (5/2)-Drops to a good spot and should be tighter in 2nd Haw start. Likes the track and Team Wilfong could be ready to roll.
5-Sweetshadyshark (2-1)-Second of 2 qualifiers was fine as this will be the 1st start since 9/24. Does like the track and similar to #1, will be tough if ready to come up with a big try. But has had breaking issues in the fall and in 1st qualifier.

Aqueduct - Race #1

#3 Splitting Eights	Lightly raced runner really improved in his last, when he added Lasix and stretched out, looks like a Lone F, and meets two tough to trust lifetime maidens; come and catch the upset pick.
#7 Tony Small	The second of the heavy favorites woke up in his last when 3rd, and a repeat makes him a big threat, but at 0-for-8 there's little upside here, and Jeremiah is beyond ice cold; second-best.
#4 Sneads	Odds-on ML favorite has the most consistent form and comfortably beat the pick last time, but he's also now 12-0-3-4, so there's no reason to think today will be the day; making him prove it.
Race Summary	The price and race flow both work with the 3, who looks like the controlling speed and has plenty of upside, especially when you consider how big he ran when Lasix was added last tie, so give him a look in all the slots, and especially to kick off the early Pk5, as a win would go a long way in blowing up the sequence right off the bat.

Aqueduct - Race #4

#2 Bertranda	Stalker has been running well at the level and has really improved in two starts off the Gullo claim, should be right off a speed duel, and likely won't be favored; love her chances here.
#6 Letmetakethiscall	ML favorite aired in fast time in the mud and drew well for her speedy style, but on dry land her form isn't much, she may bounce, and could get fried on the lead; trying to beat on top.
#1 Camorra	Sharp N3L winner takes all the worst of it here, as she's the inside speed with the chalk lapped to her outside, which means she is going to be gasping for air late; underneath, if at all.
Race Summary	You certainly won't get rich on the 2 but there's a good chance they go bonkers on the 6 off the huge figure win last time, so may an aggressive win and place bet if you get this 8-5 ML, while getting some added value by singling her in the early Pk5/Pk4, as 'Call will take a ton of play in both sequences, which means a win by the pick would knock out a lot of the budget players.

Aqueduct - Race #8

#4 I Love Jaxson	Streaking sort has won 5-of-6 and now wheels back on six days rest while getting the acid test too, and while he needs to prove he's got the class for this, the price will be right, and he could be sitting just off a torrid speed duel; upset special.
#1 Mr. Buff	Heavy favorite wins this by 5 with his usual run, as his last two stakes wins have been awesome, but the guy next door won't make it easy on the lead, and the cutback to this one-turn mile could be tricky and a bit too sharp; backwheel time.
#2 Syndergaard	Reclamation project was in pretty good form when last seen, though he didn't win and that was in May, but he's the speed here, if they want it, so if he clears he could get brave, but the chalk won't let him get away, which won't help late; dicey.
Race Summary	There's a lot to like about the 4, most notably the price and race flow, and both of those can help offset the class question, so give him a look to win and place, and in the late Pk5/Pk4 as well, since anyone on a budget will be singling the 1, even though there are a few reasons to think the trains comes to a halt today.

Charles Town - Race #2

#1 Lady Rebel	Looks like she should be the lone pace in here on the move around two turns, and although she's no sure thing to stay, the race shape edge she owns makes her the right one.
#7 Kentucky Dancer	Owns some route pace that can keep her in touch with the top choice out of the gate, and this is a really significant drop to a price where she rattled off two in a row last year.
#4 Im a Tricky One	Finishing type owns just enough tactical pace to stay in the frame early, and she usually offers a fair number on the board.
Race Summary	Lady Rebel should make a break for it from the inside, and she isn't likely to have a ton of trouble establishing a clear lead. If she can force the rest of them to play catch-up from the bell, she can win this.

Charles Town - Race #3

#5 Spunman	Doesn't meet a whole lot in this group, and he has been working well for a capable debut barn.
#2 Bear's Estate	Has found his home at this kind of trip with a couple of really solid efforts under his belt in those last two races. Maybe.
#3 Fancy Castle	Another with a pretty sharp string of works to his name, he's in the mix in a spot where those who have raced have not inspired.
Race Summary	Spunman won't have to be a star to score with this group at first asking, and he seems ready to roll for a team that can win out of the box.

Charles Town - Race #7

#1 Dupree	Don't know if he can handle the local footing or this abbreviated trip, but his recent form stacks up well here and he may get a really nice tracking trip behind the pace players.
#6 Phonemyposseagain	He's so tough to beat at these short trips, and his winning streak has now reached eight. Obvious player.
#4 Nova Boy	Might be along way too late at this trip, but he should have a handful of fading players coming back to him late, and he's the only real finisher in the bunch.
Race Summary	Dupree could trip out from the inside in a spot where several others want to make a break for it. He can rate just a touch, and that may give him a great spying go just off the speed.

#5 CAPTAIN MULZAC	Catch him if you can on another class drop.
#10 ROUGH ODDS	Knows how to win, gets ample pace flow, but tough post in seasonal debut.
#1 BORN OF FIRE	Second from the rail two starts ago at this level.
Race Summary	Captain Mulzac changed tactics on the class drop, set a 1:24 pace through 3/4s of a mile and couldn’t hold off the 8-5 pocket sitter. He should capitalize on an easier condition tonight but don’t expect 2-1 morning line price.

Meadowlands - Race #6

#1 MINDTRIP	Unwound too late, finished with a rush for second.
#3 BELL I NO	Re-emerged after he was passed on the backstretch, one to beat.
#4 EFFRONTE A	Gapped in third while saving ground, paced evenly in stretch as the fave.
Race Summary	Mindtrip trailed at the top of the stretch but closed with a flourish between rivals to finish second against similar rivals. He’s too good to pass up at 4-1, so play 1-3 and 1-4 exactas.

Woodbine-Mohawk Park - Race #10

#4 P L JACKSON	Strong rally in blustery conditions, price attached on class rise.
#9 EAST END	Followed move on 8-5 winner, early position is the key.
#1 MONGOLIAN HERO N	Three-peat bid was foiled at this level, can make good use of speed from rail.
Race Summary	P L Jackson is worth a longshot stab despite taking a step up in class. He raced far back until the stretch but rallied fastest and widest in the wind and snow last week to get beat 2 lengths. Play a 1-4-9 exacta box.

#3 American Goddess	Was away poorly and rallied strongly for 4th in her debut; keeps Johnny V. and makes big improvements here for Ward stable.
#5 Union Colonel	Likely a clear favorite coming off a solid 2nd in a quick race on turf here; makes 2nd local appearance and could be a more than a handful for his rivals.
#10 King of Rock	Has long list of workouts (some good ones) and gets Saez for his debut; Gargan trainee could make an impact at 1st asking.
Race Summary	American Goddess lost her best chance at the start and being against males like today is something that's never been a concern for Ward.

Gulfstream Park - Race #2

#3 Little Bit Good	On the board in 3 of her 4 turf starts and gets a rider change to Leparoux, who is good at getting turf fillies to relax. Can be just off the lead and can have something for the finish.
#4 Just a Bit Sassy	Won her only turf start and was claimed that day by the Eppler stable; was a well-beaten 2nd in a race that came of the turf and has good distance experience for this one.
#1 Napa Rules	Was a sharp winner last out and was claimed by Orseno; makes her 1st turf attempt today and likely will be a pace factor.
Race Summary	Little Bit Good will probably catch a good trip behind the speed and Leparoux can have her rolling toward the end.

Gulfstream Park - Race #5

#2 Charlie the Greek	Was a distant 3rd in his 1st of the year and has many good efforts over this strip> Is in the mix in most of his races and is well-placed for his 1st win since August. Was claimed by Hess stable last time and has a good work since the acquisition.
#1 Yes I See	Has a solid late kick on occasion and this 14-time winner should get plenty of speed to chance; expect a good run vs. these.
#3 Vincero	Was claimed by Breen while 4th last time and been good at this level; has been mostly in sprints lately but has some good mile performances on his form.
Race Summary	Charlie the Greek does a lot of good over this track, and even when he doesn't win he is usually prominently placed. Has tactical speed and can be around for the finish of this quality mile run.
