Wednesday night West Qualifying round betting action and we get the Colorado Avalanche (43-20-8) vs Dallas Stars (37-25-8). Puck drops at 6:30pm ET from Rogers Place in Edmonton. The betting line favors the Avs -123 and the total is set at 5.5.
Likely in net for Colorado will be Phillip Grubauer. He ended the regular season 18-12-4 with a 2.63GAA. Ben Biship will likely get the start for Dallas. He is 21-16-4 with a 2.50GAA. Last games out the Avs grabbed a nice 2-1 win over the defending champion St. Louis Blues. The Stars lost last game out 5-3 to Las Vegas. The Golden Knights scored four unanswered goals in the third, and I'm sure that is still stinging this Stars team.
Lots to play for in this one with a Stars loss Wednesday, they can earn no better than the third seed in the West. Still I don't see it happening. The motivation may be there but the skill is not. They might match up well vs. the Avs, as evidenced by their results this year (the last time the teams played was Jan. 14.) but the Avs are just the better team at this point. They were playing great going into the Covid-break, and they've picked up where they left off.
Some betting trends to consider. The Stars have LOST 6 games in a row vs. teams with a winning record, and the Avs have won 16 of their last 22 games when they're the betting favorite.
Play on the Avs on Wednesday.

I'll gladly take my chances that Minnesota not only wins, but does so by at least 2 runs. Twins certainly look like a playoff team. Minnesota has won 5 straight and are 9-2 overall. Out of those 9 wins, 8 have been by 2 or more runs.
They will be facing the Pirates, who are on the other end of the spectrum. Pittsburgh enters on a 6 game losing streak and are 2-9 overall. They are scoring just 3.4 runs/game and giving up 4.9 runs/game. Key here is this is exactly what we thought the Pirates would be.
Randy Dobnak will get the start for Minnesota. He's allowed just 1 run on 6 hits in 9 innings of work over his first two starts. Should be another strong outing against this Pittsburgh offense.
Pirates will turn to Trevor Williams, who has allowed 6 runs on 9 hits in just 8 1/3 innings. Pittsburgh has been outscored 15-4 in his two starts, both losses coming by at least 3 runs. Give me the Twins -1.5 (-106)
