“1 UNIT” INJURY INTANGIBLE (Brewers +100 at Diamondbacks in a 9:40 eastern start- Greinke vs Kennedy): Both sides suffered major injuries yesterday including Arizona lost starting shortstop Stephen Drew (fractured ankle) for the remainder of the season. Milwaukee outfielder Carlos Gomez is also expected to be sidelined for at least the next two months but he has not always been in the starting lineup. It is the Brewers that will have an easier time finding a replacement as speedy outfielder Nyjer Morgan used to be an everyday player as recent as one year ago. Morgan also just happens to be a career .353 hitter when facing Arizona which is good news for a Milwaukee offense who tonight is facing a suddenly struggling Ian Kennedy whose ERA in the past 3 starts (5.78) leaves a lot to be desired. Milwaukee starting pitching during their current 4-1 run of prosperity (1.44 ERA) has been outstanding especially when you consider that they have been playing inside a pair of ballparks (Arizona, Colorado) that normally yield high scoring contests. Tonight the Brewers seek to go a sensational 9-1when visiting the Diamondbacks home ballpark and certainly the odds of winning in the desert southwest are better than during the weekend when Prince Fielder and company travel to San Francisco. In the past two years Arizona has had problems (12-22) when facing competition from the National League Central division. Also long term the Diamondbacks are a horrible 3-12 with a “tired” bullpen that in a two-game stretch was forced to throw 9+ combined innings. Arizona’s bullpen is already a bit depleted as regular closer J.J. Putz is on the disabled list. Here is an UNDEFEATED season long angle that sees Zack Greinke 8-0 when facing offenses that on average strike out at least 7 times per contest

            Detroit at Minnesota
            Pick: Minnesota +147

Minnesota's season might have been on the line the past two days at home against Cleveland, after losing that doubleheader to the Tribe on Monday night. But the Twins gutted out a pair of wins and reclaimed the momentum in the AL Central, and now get a chance to cut the deficit on a Detroit team immediately ahead of them in the standings. Normally we would be reluctant to buck Tigers ace Justin Verlander, but we make an exception after he hardly looked himself in his last outing on Friday vs. the White Sox, allowing 5 runs in 6 IP of an eventual 8-2 defeat. Minnesota, 18-6 in its last 24 at home provides exceptional Money Line value in the +155 range with starting pitcher Carl Pavano, usually good for a solid effort, working at least 7 innings in 10 of his last 11 starts and posting a solid 2.90 ERA at Target Field this season.
