                          Tuesday's Action

30 Dime baseball selection goes this Tuesday night, and it happens to be my 6th winner in a row of the 30 dime catoegory. Take the Rockies as they cool off the red-hot Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field. At the time I releose this winner, the odds have Colorado +140 across the board both here in Vegas and offshore. Note that when placing your action, you must list Cook and Miley as the starting pitchers. Both must start, or this play is VOID!

                                4* NY YANKEES -130

It looks like we are going to be all alone here, playing on one of the best teams in the sport, with one of the best starting pitchers in the game on the hill. And as long-time followers will know, we rarely hesitate to be “alone” when it comes to having an A level team going for us. It has been a long time since we have seen this kind of money bet against a package as strong as the Yankees with C. C. Sabathia on the hill, and now that -130 is showing deal us in.

Yes, C. C. Sabathia has a stunning 0-4/7.20 pitching line against the Red Sox this season, as opposed to 17-3/2.40 against all other teams. But what is the more likely outcome in Game #5, a continuance of those poor showings, or a regression to the mean? Is it the 2011-only sample that rules, or the fact that Jacoby Ellsbury is just .238 over 21 lifetime at-bats against him, with more K’s than hits; Adrian Gonzelez is an identical .238 over 21 at-bats, with more K’s than hits; David Ortiz is at .217 over 46, with more K’s than hits; Dustin Pedroia is at .219 over 32, with more K’s than hits; and neither C has scratched him, with Jason Varitek at .167 over 24, with more K’s than hits, and Jarrod Saltalamacchia at .222 over nine, with, you guessed it, more K’s than hits. Give us one of the best competitors in the sport as he brings a chip on his shoulder tonight.

Meanwhile John Lackey is also play-against fodder. Lackey’s 12-9 record is a major outlier based on that 5.98 allowance, and note that he has gone 6-1 since the All Star break not because of good pitching, but because he has had 7.6 runs per game in support over those eight outings. Of the 119 pitchers that have worked at least 120 IP, only J. A. Happ has a worse ERA, and Lackey’s 1.67 WHIP is dead last, having been tagged for an unsightly 160 hits over 129.1 frames. He has managed to go 2-0 against the Yankees despite a higher 7.36 allowance than Sabathia has had in going 0-4 against the Red Sox, and he shows no confidence at all from the Fenway mound, with a 5.05 allowance since moving to Boston LY. He simply does not bring anything that can get past good hitters at this stage of his career, with an alarming 7.40 ERA in 13 starts against teams that are .500 or better.
