Well most people who are poor were born poor and were conditioned from birth to believe that that's all that's available for them. I've met plenty of poor people, for instance, who literally believe that going to college is impossible for them.

There are exceptions to every rule, but I don't think you'll find too many people who are poor today who used to be wealthy or upper middle class.

Compared to other developed countries, belief in economic mobility is among the highest in America, while our actual economic mobility is among the lowest. I think this fact explains a lot about the political landscape in the US.

I don't think they should be generalized as "bad people", but they need to go watch the Pursuit of Happiness movie with Will Smith to get some damn inspiration. It really annoys me when people who are struggling with money spend what they have on dumb shit though. If you are broke and living week to week, don't go buy clothes every week (I am taking a shot at my girlfriend here).

Really hard to define POOR in America. Plenty of people who depend on the Gov. for handouts have a car, cable TV, fancy cell phones and multiple TV's and dvd players. We really live in a weird time where so many considered poor are actually living decent lives.

on the other hand, many black kids are stuck in the ghetto with no dad and no real male role model. the drug dealer on the street corner with the nice car and gold looks real appealing to that young kid who has no dad and a mom who is working 2 jobs are sitting on her ass collecting a Gov. check. but how, as a society do we fix that problem? i think a start is stopping the insane war on drugs that actually creates alot of the problems in the inner city. In fact, end the war on drugs and the war on poverty...Because they have both obviously failed.
