I'm not exactly under what name "Pro Taekwondo" runs. I doubt it's certified by the WTF or something, which is partially good because it won't have to deal with all the fucking politics.

I found the video and thought it was interesting, me and my friends used to spar like this, with basically kyokushin rules (leg kicks and whatnot, but not punching to the face)

No, certainly not certified by the WTF I wouldn't think, but it seems obvious that they were adapting the WTF ruleset instead of the ITF ruleset, and attracting WTF competitors.

I wonder what happened to that org. It's undoubtedly something different from the Pro TKD guys in Europe. I might need to do some digging into this.

I wish there was more off beat martial arts competitions that got widespread exposure, and by off beat I mean not MMA, boxing or standard kickboxing. I did see some stuff from the ISKA US Open (sport karate tourney) on TV the other day, which was cool in a way, but I have a problem taking the sport karate stuff seriously, with the way they scream like they're on fire and use multi-colored glow in the dark weapons and shit.

I did think this bitch was pretty awesome, though:

Oh, to have friends to train with. That would be awesome. This is one of the biggest barriers to me really getting going as far as my own MA training goes. I never have anyone to train with outside of class.

I was getting disappointed after almost a minute of bowing, lol.
Pretty fucking crazy though, she'd be scary in the bedroom.

Ha ha. I thought it was cool.

When I was watching the ISKA thing I was kind of like, "Eh . . . this is pretty cool I guess . . ." and then she came on and I was like, "Audrie Donihoo . . . Google time. . ." And then there she was.

If you can get away from always worrying about combat effectiveness and just appreciate the art of the XMA kind of stuff, then it's actually pretty (to use a quaint term) neat. Those releases she does on the sword where she tosses it into the air are pretty awesome.

I'm not gonna lie, she's pretty hot.

              (InB4theusualgayzaccusemeofbeingapedophile. Guess what? I already checked! And she's 19!)

Believe it or not martial arts and MMA are actually pretty popular with a lot of younger Mormons. There are a lot of Mormon fighters who fight in the local orgs.

You know ol' Jeremy Horn is a Mormon and has been for a while now.

I think Diego Brandao is, too.

Interesting article on when Gene LeBell fought a boxer. . .

Scientists suspect there's a mind-body connection in Karatekas' punching power. Interesting article.

Sounds fishy to Me. 12 black belts with an average of 13 years experience and 12 control subjects who were in shape but had no martial art experience whatsoever. Obviously the average martial artist past thier centennial in a martial art will hit harder than the guy who does pilates and plays basketball. Striking based martial arts are designed to maximize effectiveness of strikes, even down to what would seem to be a simple straight punch. High level technique and years upon years of practice > guy who works out on the elliptical machines at planet fitness.

What I'd like to see is a test where the control subjects are 3-4 year karatekas.

Yeah I agree. Guys who know how to punch hit harder than guys who don't. Where's my jump to conclusions mat?
