How many KOs does it take to make a person retarded? I've always been under the impression that it's more about the number of blows taken as a whole as opposed to the number of KOs.

I mean, how many punchy MMA fighters are there? Any?

Everytime you get KO'd it causes a small amount of damage to the brain. If those concussions are close together or over and over it can cause severe brain damage . You should watch this:

This is the main reason I don't consider MMA to be as dangerous as boxing. If you ever get into a position where you can't defend yourself, the fight is over right there. You don't get 8 seconds to recover, then get sent out to get your brain battered again.

Boxers dont get 10 seconds to recover when they cant defend themselves They get 10 seconds to recover when they get knocked down ,big difference. In MMA you dont get any recovery time if you get knocked down the fight just keeps going if you get knocked down.
If a boxer isnt defending himself in a fight the fight is stopped right then there isnt any count.

Both sports are dangerous .MMA because you can get KO'd over and over easily and boxing because the amount of punches a fighter with no defense can take

News today dropped that Keith Jardine was let go by the UFC and speculation quickly turned that he’d be signed by Stikeforce. Not so fast though, when asked Coker replied, “I’m not sure… he’s had a very good run and he is a good fighter, but I think he’s lost four in a row, right?” Yes he has Scott, and he’s also lost five of his last six and six of his last eight.

Strikeforce has been contacted by Jardine’s camp though but they will not talk about what they want to do until after this weekend’s fights. Coker though sounded concerned about what Jardine has left in the tank, “After you lose four fights in a row no matter who you are sometimes it’s better to take a step backwards and maybe evaluate what it is you really want to do, stated Coker.”

Whether or not Strikeforce signs him is likely going to depend on what they believe he has left in the tank
