Jake Rossen just wrote pretty much the worst article of all time about solving stalling.

I just read it. His opinions are bad and he should feel bad.

I don't think inactivity is a problem. Not every fight is going to be bell to bell flurries... just accept it. The further away from reality mma gets (and it is already there) the less interesting it is for me.

That article sounds like it was written quickly and pushed out without much proofreading, but I don't disagree with everything. I think there has to be a balance between encouraging action and letting fighters fight their fight.

Don't ya'll remember what it was like watching the early UFCs where two guys would stay in the same position for literally minutes at a time with nothing at all happening? That sucked. Fuck that shit. I don't want that, even if it's more "realistic."

Nobody cares about proofreading. I'm ripping on the incredibly shitty ideas. All 5 of them are absolute garbage.

I don't mind it as long as they aren't rewarding it... but I understand I am in the minority here. It is not going to happen often, so I can live with a few boring fights in the name of purity.

Didn't Pride give yellow cards for stalling, and no one ever has anything bad to say about them. . .

If we didn't have stand-ups and referee breakages in the clinch then we'd have a LOT of boring fights.

                    Re: UFC 123 - Machida/Rampage

^ Maybe, but I don't think so. If the judges would'nt reward it, there would be no incentive to do it. I think in general the fighter were more exciting in the old days. There were no standups, but since you were actually allowed to try to hurt the guy on the ground, there didn't need to be. You had the occasional stinker, but just as many of them were like Shamrock/Severn where they stood up and circled the entire time.

To date, the absolute worst most boring fights I have seen in modern MMA, and I think the UFC agrees, have been standup fights where neither guy will engage or one guy will not engage. Arlovski/Silvia, Arlovski/Werdum, Silva/Maia, Silva/Leites, Starnes/Quarry... don't get me wrong, there have been some horrible grappling oriented matches too (Rashad/Bonnar and Rashad/Hoger come to mind)... but there is just no way to make a guy fight that doesn't want to. All you can do is put the incentives out there and see if they respond to the incentives. The UFC has the money incentives covered, the scoring needs to change to reflect the winning incentives and we will be good to go.

I really dont mind fights like that. Like I always say you want non stop action watch WWE. This is a sport sometimes it will be boring

I remember one of the first boring fights I saw in UFC Severn-Shamrock II . Did I stop watching UFC after that? No

Its just part of the sport . You cant go cutting people, standing people up after a few seconds of nothing happnening and expect people to go for a KO when they are way ahead.
Dana keeps this up he's going to ruin the UFC

I'm against all arbitrary referee separations. I don't even see anywhere in the rules where they are explicitly given that power.

Honestly, more often than not, the guy on the bottom is the one stalling out hoping for a standup.

I'll go ahead and do it then. The yellow card system is the worst idea in history. A referee having the power to arbitrarily deduct a fighter's pay is just ridiculous. There's a reason you never see it in the US. It's because no commission would ever allow such nonsense.
