Interesting.
I studied Spanish for a couple of years in high school and then forgot most of it, and then started over again in 2004. When I was in Guatemala I studied at a language school there, but the teachers spoke very little English and I didn't learn a whole lot. I'm sure they thought it was "immersive" but I just thought it was frustrating.
Now I'm picking it up again because a friend that I met in Guatemala might be coming to the US and might be staying with me for a couple of months. She's learning English so I figure I should try to meet her half way when it comes to our ability to communicate with each other. I've forgotten a lot of what I learned before so I'm having to go back to the basics. I downloaded Rosetta Stone and I also went out and bought this shit:
I'm going to try to find whatever decent movies there are in Spanish and watch them. (This would be a much easier task if I were learning Japanese or Mandarin.)
I probably have about 6 months or so to get up to speed. Considering the opportunities I've had to learn some shit I should be well ahead of where I am, but it is what it is.
