five straight, all by DDs. So something has to give. That could easily be the Panthers after a cross-country trip,
facing the reinforced depth of the 49ers. S.F. expects to get several key players back for this game. Niner OLB
Aldon Smith (19½ sacks LY), who’s back from some needed rehab; WR Mario Manningham, who suffered a torn
ACL last November; and OLB/DE Tank Carradine, the Niners’ No. 2 draft pick who sustained a torn ACL last
season while at Florida State, all appear ready to go. Since S.F. returned to its power ground game after its
disappointing home loss to Indianapolis in Week Three, QB Colin Kaepernick has 6 TDs vs. only 1 interception, with
165 YR and 3 TDR. After an extra week of prep under Jim Harbaugh, Kaep can be trusted to make just a few more
big plays at Candlestick than emerging fellow dual-threat Cam Newton (2 ints. vs. Atlanta last week).
