So seriously, does Shields still get a WW title shot? I think he needs to go back to 185 where he looks healthy and can go at a hard pace. i had serious doubts that he would win tonight by just looking at him in the cage before the fight started.
From what i am reading, it sounded close. but it sounded like taylor should have won. I know it is not true, but it really does seem like all my bets that go to a split decision go against me.
I've usually had pretty good luck on SDs, but lately I'm genuinely felt like the universe if trying to teach me some sort of lesson. It seems like nothing is going my way.
As for Taylor, who knows. I'll have to see the fight. But it was my first bet of the night, which I lost, and for some reason when I lose the first bet of the night it ALWAYS ends up being a losing night. Every time.

I think the competition is *much* better suited to him at 185, and think he should have stayed there. GSP will kill Shields, but I bet he could take almost every top MW. He matches up very well against Vitor, Silva, and Marquardt.
I agree with this, but with the caveat that I think the badge of "great takedown defense" gets handed out too readily. I think a lot of times, people (sometimes me) give too much credit to a sprawl-and-brawler against a determined takedown artist. Like with Alves vs. Fitch, Florian vs. Maynard, Kampmann vs. Shields, Penn vs. GSP, etc.
I also think the balance could shift even more if wrestlers were willing to develop Randy's "wall and stall" strategy. Then, you don't even need to finish the takedown to get the decision.
I agree if guys would commit to the takedown and nothing else, they would get it much more. I think Florian and for sure Penn have to be put in the class of guys that can stop takedowns enough to be considered great takedown defense guys, and thus you have to discount the grappler's chances in those fights.

Shields vs Maia. Make it happen Dana.
I think Jacare factored heavily in Shields' decision to leave SF. He was not going to beat Jacare and his stock was about to drop.

I'm really very curious about that kind of matchup. I once thought Jacare was a bad matchup for Shields, but if Villasenor can last the whole fight on the ground against Jacare without getting subbed, I bet Shields can also. The positional battle would be great.

Yeah, I bet Shields could survive... but he wouldn't be able to hold Jacare down and would also be at a disadvantage striking. I would put Jacare at like -250. I don't see how Shields could beat him.
I also think Villesenor was able to survive at least in part because Jacare was tryig to show off his hands.
